Daily Painting — The “I Just Can’t Tonight” Edition
Ok so today is the first post where I have to take a step back and say…
“I can’t tonight.”
I can’t finish the painting.
Bear with me — it has been a day.
I did paint today. I started my daily painting for the challenge (#26), but I am literally falling asleep in the studio. I can’t finish it, especially because I actually like the sky and want to do it justice with another layer.
So here I tender today’s progress in the post-a-post-every-day challenge.
I know this means I technically have two paintings to do tomorrow, but that’s ok. I don’t think I can stay awake another moment.
I also put some finishing touches on ANOTHER painting that has a similar colour scheme to this #26 daily painitng.
⛈️ The Storm + The Day
Last night after I posted, the heavens opened and we had a mega storm quite late. The cat was going crazy, the kids were terrified of the loud thunder… and I got to bed stupidly late. Worst night ever.
And of course… we had graduation breakfast this morning.
We had to be at school by 7am. Which is fine… except it’s QLD in storm season.
7am and it was boiling. I was dripping in sweat at 7am. Thanks Queensland.
Graduation done by 9:30am, and then I toddled off to Rookie Swim for the Grade 1 kiddo.
39 degrees… and like 1000000% humidity. Thanks again, QLD.
Then straight to the gym.
Then straight back to school to collect the kids and take several to dancing.
THEN we needed to collect chicken food.
THEN I had to cook dinner.
By this point I could hardly keep my eyes open.
🎨 The Painting (…or the attempt)
As I said, I started to paint — and I am actually loving where it’s going, which is exactly why I don’t want to rush it tonight. I want to be awake and focused when I finish it.
I also did a bit of finishing off on the landscape scene below since I had the colours already on the palette.
I hope nobody thinks this is cheating for the daily painting challenge.
It sort of is… but also not?
I knew this month was going to be a full-on challenge.
However — here we are, and at least I was painting.
DAILY TIP:
An Art Teacher once told me, when painting distant hills (other than they are never a strong pure green) was that you add the sky colour into the distant landscape. so rather than using a "different red" or something for the hills using the colours on your palette for the sky will help make it ready a bit better... anyway something i always keep in mind.
sort of like if you think about it... you are looking through kilometers of light from the sky that is over the hills, so some of that colour must sort of be mixed in...
Today’s Progress
Nearly at the finish line… somehow. 😅
See you tomorrow — hopefully with a proper finished piece.
the sky certainly needs another layer it is a tad thin... however i liked where the mountains were going as well.
see you tomorrow,
