I know many people who smoke dope/cannabis/marijuana recreationally and this from what I can see does not affect them. The ones who smoke it every day seem to have some side effects, but this is not a subject that can be discussed with them as they will deny this. I guess it affects people differently and how often one smokes this. I know motivation is a problem from those that I know smoke it daily and I encountered this today with someone I know and never knew they had a problem.
This week I have been concentrating on the packaging business as this is the cash cow business and when you need quick cash this is the easiest business of the three I have to grow. The motivation is quite simple and that is the cash this can generate solving the financial problems the other two businesses create.
A couple of months ago I lost a sales representative who was going through a personal crisis in her life and her head was clearly not in the right place. She was going through far more than I could comprehend and decided to reach out this morning to see how she was doing. This is what friends do even if it is just a phone call every now and then and do not judge them.
It turned out she had been smoking Dope/Marijuana for the last 5 years and this had in her words changed reality into La La Land and she had no motivation to do anything. I know others who smoke dope daily and they have mood swings and also lack motivation so it is kind of understandable.
She has been off the dope for 67 days now and she mentioned that she has noticed a difference and has more clarity with her thoughts. This is good news as she is now back in the game and I need her to start selling packaging materials. I know the potential she has for herself and for our packaging business and she is worth the time investment to get her back on track.
This lady has been in the logistics industry for over 30 years and is so well connected that selling to her contacts should be simple. I realized that she needs a bit of a pick me up and some self confidence boosting. Saying you are motivated and actually doing something on your own steam may need some extra encouragement and this I will do to help her get on her feet.
I have never been at rock bottom having any type of personal crisis so I would not know exactly where she is coming from. I do understand this is a process and the first part is understanding the problem before you can fix it. This lady I have known for over 20 years and today was the first time in many years I can say she seemed herself.
Together we formulated a simple strategy and that was to visit one of her close friends in the logistics industry and go and have a coffee with them. There is no pressure and expect that this will help boost her confidence by selling a product to someone she knows. She has well over a hundred contacts so starting with one this week and maybe 3 next week will slowly get her back into routine until she is seeing 2 or 3 companies daily.
I always believe once you see the results of your efforts you find even more motivation to do more and I am trying to break her in slowly. You could want to do too much and then lose motivation within a few weeks so starting slow and building gradually in this particular case should be a far better approach. Again I am no shrink or doctor so this is more about how I am reading the situation helping get someone who has lost themselves get back on their feet.
