I was largely raised with the value set that "If something is worth doing, it's worth doing WELL."
While that's an admirable approach to whatever you undertake in life, the unspoken reality there is that doing things well and truly making them worthwhile — not just for ourselves, but also for other people — tends to require a lot of planning and subsequent work.
A lot of people really don't like that!
I imagine that's why we often encounter things that feel "half assed," as we make our way through life.
Last time I posted, I mentioned the idea of visiting, examining, doing deep dives and then writing about some/many of Hive's second layer projects and communities, whether active or dormant; successful or failing.
As I started to poke around in that particular ambition, I also realized that I didn't want to just create a trail of rants and raves that basically amounted to little more than personal opinion spewing... I wanted to create something worthwhile, something that others might come along and find helpful.
Just that idea — alone — immediately doubled or tripled the scope of what I were to undertake because now I would be holding myself to doing actual serious research and fact checking... as well as poking around in the long term history of some of those things.
Which, in some cases, could easily involve summarizing 6+ years of information into something easily understandable and usable.
As a result, I ended up feeling a little overwhelmed and backed off to take several days to just think about my own proposition, and where to even begin.
Of course, "the beginning" tends to be a good place...
... and to that end, I reminded myself that was actually created around PALnet, the very first community back on the "old version" of Hive, when the layer two projectes revolved around now defunct Steem-Engine.
It might sound like a silly starting point since the community isn't particularly visible anymore, but I figured the benefit of starting with the oldest community would be that everything subsequent was ultimately a "subsequent derivation" of it... so if I collected "all the parts" of the PALNet community it would become a pretty complete template for any other community I planned to examine.
I know this might seem like a slightly "odd" post, but I find that it helps me to lay out my thought process in writing before taking action on that thought process... so that's basically what I'm doing.
I'm not shooting for doing this on any particular schedule, and it might turn out to become very sporadic because of the time factor. I just don't know, yet.
But you have to start somewhere, right?
