It's the first time I've seen a Holy Thursday like this. Few people know one like it. Stuffed into the house without being able to go out just to buy the necessities. Let's hope we don't see another one like it.
Es la primera vez que veo un Jueves Santo cómo este. Pocas personas conozcan uno igual. Metidos en casa sin poder salir solamente para comprar lo más necesario. Esperemos que no veamos otro igual.
A year ago we were in Malaga watching as the Nazarenes accompanied the images of their brotherhoods through the streets of the city, some of which were escorted by soldiers from the different branches of the army.
Hace un año estábamos en Málaga viendo como los nazarenos acompañaban por las calles de la ciudad a las imágenes de sus hermandades, de las cuales algunas iban escoltadas por militares de los las distintas ramas del ejército.
One of the ones that is most loved is the congregation of El Mena. In this brotherhood, which has its headquarters in the perchelera church of Santo Domingo, the Cristo de la Buena Muerte (Christ of the Good Death) and Nuestra Señora de la Soledad Coronada (Our Lady of Solitude) are carried in a procession through Málaga every Holy Thursday. Every Maundy Thursday except the one in 2020 because of the coronavirus.
Una de las que más cariño se le tiene es a la congregación del Mena. En esta cofradía con sede en la perchelera Iglesia de Santo Domingo procesiona todos los Jueves Santo por Málaga el Cristo de la Buena Muerte y Nuestra Señora de la Soledad Coronada. Todos los Jueves Santo menos el de 2020 a causa del coronavirus.
But luckily I was able to watch closely the procession of this brotherhood last year and I am going to show it to you.
Pero por suerte pude contemplar de cerca el año pasado la procesión de esta cofradía y os la voy a enseñar.
About a hundred years ago in the Spanish protectorate of North Africa there was a war against Rifa tribes where Malaga played an important role as it was where the most seriously wounded were moved. These soldiers, in gratitude to the city, brought flowers to the Christ of the Good Death and from that moment on he will be the patron saint of the Spanish Legion.
Hace unos cien años en el protectorado español del norte de África hubo una guerra contra tribus rifeñas donde Málaga jugó un papel importante al ser donde se trasladaban los heridos más graves. Estos soldados en agradecimiento a la ciudad, llevaron flores al Cristo de la Buena Muerte y desde ese momento será el patrón de la Legión española.
