Mindglass
I stare into the tablet of the mind:
a crystal slate imbued with darkling ray,
to flash the grasped-upon in briefest find
before extinguishing again to lay
in a graveyard of thought—
down, down upon the depth
of that gemmed neural net
where I am turns am not.
A glare upon the surface catches fire
from the glint of an unknown illuminaire;
all through its brilliant promise to burn higher
I glance, I pierce, dispel and I must stare
into its cradle of glass
all sharp edge, dust, and dregs,
molten bone-shard and slag
and it writhes as I pass.
