La Navidad representa la paz, el amor y la unidad. Por lo tanto, en esta época del año rememoramos el nacimiento del Niño Jesús. Por eso, aquí en mi país, Venezuela, es costumbre celebrar las misas de aguinaldos; así se combina la cultura con la fe católica. Así que en este año me uní a esta tradición que conmemora el nacimiento de nuestro Salvador.
Christmas represents peace, love, and unity. Therefore, at this time of year, we commemorate the birth of the Baby Jesus. That is why, here in my country, Venezuela, it is customary to celebrate Christmas Masses, combining culture with the Catholic faith. So this year, I joined in this tradition that commemorates the birth of our Savior.
Las misas de aguinaldos se celebran desde el 16 de diciembre hasta la madrugada del día 24 de ese mes. Son nueve días de festejo que nos posibilitan prepararnos como comunidad para la llegada de nuestro Salvador. Por lo tanto, este año decidí activar esta tradición que me ha llenado de alegría y gratitud. También es la primera vez que asisto a tantas misas de aguinaldos; no pude completar las nueve porque tuve que ir a Maturín para pasar con mi nieto Gael el 24 de diciembre y esperar al niño Jesús.
Advent Masses are celebrated from December 16 until the early hours of December 24. These nine days of celebration allow us to prepare as a community for the arrival of our Savior. Therefore, this year I decided to revive this tradition that has filled me with joy and gratitude. It is also the first time I have attended so many Christmas Masses; I was unable to complete all nine because I had to go to Maturín to spend December 24 with my grandson Gael and wait for the baby Jesus.
Les cuento que la misa empieza a las 5 de la mañana y es organizada por la iglesia de la comunidad. Ellos se encargan de coordinar cuáles son las nueve comunidades vecinas que van a participar; empezaron con el urbanismo donde vivo, y asistí con mi familia: mi esposo, mis hermanos, mi mamá y mi cuñada. En estas misas, el padre lleva a cabo la eucaristía y la acompaña con canciones de aguinaldos, parrandas y villancicos. Al término de la ceremonia, se comparte café, chocolate, galletas, hallacas, torta o pan de jamón con todos los feligreses que asistimos para escuchar y participar de estas misas.
I should mention that Mass begins at 5 a.m. and is organized by the community church. They are responsible for coordinating the nine neighboring communities that will participate. They started with the neighborhood where I live, and I attended with my family: my husband, my brothers, my mother, and my sister-in-law. During these masses, the priest celebrates the Eucharist and accompanies it with Christmas carols, parrandas, and villancicos. At the end of the ceremony, coffee, hot chocolate, cookies, hallacas, cake, or ham bread are shared with all the parishioners who attended to listen and participate in these masses.
Este año participé en esta celebración, asistí a siete misas conjuntamente con mi esposo y mi familia, pero lamento haberme perdido los dos últimos y la misa del 24. This year I participated in this celebration, attending seven masses together with my husband and family, but I regret having missed the last two and the mass on the 24th.
