¿Qué significa para ti la libertad de expresión? | What does freedom of expression mean to you?
La libertad de expresión es un derecho que tenemos todos los humanos, donde cada individuo o comunidad puede articular sus opiniones e ideas. Existen demasiadas maneras de expresar un mismo mensaje, mi favorito y el que más domino es la danza. Aprovechando que hace poco (29 de abril) se celebró el Día Internacional de la Danza, me encantaría responder las siguientes preguntas con esta premisa: “La Danza es una manera de expresarte, prohibirla es limitar la libertad de expresión”.
Freedom of expression is a right that all humans have, where each individual or community can articulate their opinions and ideas. There are too many ways to express the same message, my favourite and the one I master most is dance. Taking advantage of the fact that International Dance Day was recently celebrated (29 April), I would like to answer the following questions with this premise: "Dance is a way of expressing yourself, to prohibit it is to limit freedom of expression".

La danza existe desde la prehistoria, poco a poco ha evolucionado al punto de crear diversos estilos, entre esos, varios están mal vistos cuando no saben el origen de estos. Es razonable y aceptable que veas algo que no te guste, pero no criticarlo al punto de prohibirlo o pedir su desaparición cuando desconoces de ese algo, todo lo desconocido puede desagradar o dar miedo pero es mejor informarse primero.
Entonces para mi la libertad de expresión es la manera en que, en mi caso por medio de la danza, me doy a entender, ya sea para que me conozcan personalmente, como para llevar un llamado de alerta o sobre algo que siento que debería ser escuchado.
Dance has existed since prehistoric times and has gradually evolved to the point of creating various styles, among which several are frowned upon when they do not know the origin of these. It is reasonable and acceptable that you see something that you do not like, but not criticize it to the point of prohibiting it or ask for its disappearance when you do not know nothing about it, everything unknown can be unpleasant or scary but it is better to be informed first.
So for me, freedom of expression is the way in which, in my case through dance, I make myself known, either to be known personally, or to carry a warning or about something I feel should be heard.

Si, siento que es muy importante la libertad de expresión porque gracias a ella aprendemos y crecemos. Gracias a la danza, podemos sentirnos más libres de expresar todo lo que sentimos, así sea algo personal o algo que queremos manifestar a la sociedad. Entonces siento que es indispensable salvar la libertad de expresión así tendremos una esperanza de que la sociedad pueda cambiar para bien.
La danza es una de las artes que también ha sufrido la censura, ya sea por ver diversos estilos de danza como vulgares o inapropiados, o por censurar por completo cualquier tipo de danza a una hora o en un país.
Yes, I feel that freedom of expression is very important because thanks to it we learn and grow. Thanks to dance, we can feel more free to express everything we feel, whether it is something personal or something we want to manifest to society. So I feel that it is indispensable to save freedom of expression so that we have hope that society can change for the better.
Dance is one of the arts that has also suffered from censorship, whether it is for seeing various dance styles as vulgar or inappropriate, or for completely censoring any type of dance at a time or in a country.
Desde mi experiencia hay varios estilos de danza que no me llaman la atención, pero no quiere decir que no sean buenos o hagan algún daño como para censurarlos, e investigando me di cuenta que este tipo de mentalidad o censura viene desde hace muchos años. En 1816 el estilo llamado “vals” hizo un escándalo muy grande en Reino Unido, la gente veía las expresiones de afecto como algo que se realiza cuando ya se está casado con la persona; el vals, que constituye un abrazo intimo donde la pareja se debe sostener mientras bailan en público fue algo revolucionado fue muy mal visto hasta que al pasar el tiempo se ve a la misma reina Victoria bailar un vals.
Actualmente un estilo que esta sufriendo lo que el vals paso en sus años, es el Twerking. El Twerking es un estilo proveniente de las danzas tradicionales de África que explotó en Nueva Orleans acompañando al Hip Hop, donde se debe realizar intensos movimientos pélvicos al ritmo de la música. Es una danza sensual cuyo fin es realzar la belleza femenina, pero por diversas sociedades y grupos es considerado una estilo que debe ser censurado. Eso, en mi opinión es una restricción de libertad de expresión, cada quien tiene derecho a expresarse de la manera que mejor le parezca sin hacerle daño a alguien, algo o a sí mismo.
From my experience there are several styles of dance that do not call my attention, but it doesn't mean that they are not good or do some damage to censor them, and investigating I realized that this type of mentality or censorship comes from many years. In 1816 the style called "waltz" made a big scandal in the United Kingdom, people saw the expressions of affection as something that you do when you are already married to the person; the waltz, which constitutes an intimate embrace where the couple must hold each other while dancing in public was something that was revolutionized was very badly seen until, as time went by, you saw Queen Victoria herself dancing a waltz.
Currently a style that is suffering what the waltz passed in his years, is the Twerking. The Twerking is a style that comes from the traditional dances of Africa that exploded in New Orleans accompanying Hip Hop, where you must perform intense pelvic movements to the rhythm of the music. It is a sensual dance whose purpose is to enhance female beauty, but by various societies and groups it is considered a style that should be censured. That, in my opinion, is a restriction of freedom of expression, everyone has the right to express themselves in the way they think best without harming anyone, anything or themselves.

Me encantaría agregar algo que descubrí mientras investigaba, se conoce que en varios países, la danza estaba (o aún esta) limitada o completamente prohibida, casos como Suecia y Japón donde antes había un horario para las danzas, porque se consideraba que al incumplirse esta regla provocaría caos, desorden y peleas.
En Irán tenemos el caso de una ley iraní donde indican que bailar no es una opción legal en el país, tanto que existe un caso en el 2014 que detuvieron a seis jóvenes por subir un video a Youtube bailando el famosos tema de Pharrel Williams “Happy", y lastimosamente existe el caso que no sólo es delito bailar, sino que puede costarte la vida.
Es el caso de Afganistán donde consideran el bailar un acto indecoroso, haciendo que existan casos de asesinatos múltiples de los considerados “rebeldes” por el hecho de bailar.
I would love to add something that I discovered while researching, it is known that in several countries, dance was (or still is) limited or completely prohibited, cases like Sweden and Japan where there used to be a schedule for dances, because it was considered that breaking this rule would cause chaos, disorder and fights.
In Iran we have the case of an Iranian law where they indicate that dancing is not a legal option in the country, so, there is a case in 2014 where six young people were arrested for uploading a video to Youtube dancing the famous Pharrel Williams song "Happy", and unfortunately there is the case that not only is it a crime to dance, but it can cost your life.
This is the case in Afghanistan where they consider dancing an unseemly act, leading to cases of multiple murders of those considered "rebels" for the fact of dancing.
Seria una gran felicidad para mi que todas esas leyes y pensamientos sean alimentados con los conceptos de este hermoso arte, como lo es la danza, para así todos esos casos donde piden erradicación de “tal” estilo de danza se elimine por completo. It would be a great happiness for me that all those laws and thoughts are fed with the concepts of this beautiful art, as is the dance, so that all those cases where they ask for eradication of "such" style of dance is completely eliminated.
