Going through my eternal folders of paintings, practices, sketches that should never see the light and references; I met this old friend. It was one of the first paintings I did with a theme outside of my university obligations (and by obligations I mean slavery). I am very fond of him so finishing it was a duty.
This beautiful fox acts differently than many would believe; while his companions are getting a bad name, he lives in the distance taking care of his little friends.
They being little water creatures he believes that the sun will come to hurt them so he gives them a hand while they seek shelter.
Proceso/Process:
Before taking the step-by-step approach, which is always dictated by our tradition, you should know that I didn't redo the painting from scratch, instead I used the first part as a basis to continue until I achieved the result I wanted:
If you want to know that first part and you life in the other side of the puddle, I'll leave it here:
# 🌿 🎨 The world beyond #1 – The fox with a heart.
Using the color blocks of the first process I chose to define more the details of the coat; the tail was among all my favorite area.
At the beginning I wanted to learn how the lights and shadows of the environment affected the total tone of the character, this made that during my first attempt I had very opaque tones... but with time, practice and mistakes that I swear I will never do again I decided to play more with the colors here, still maintaining a logical tone... (as I said before, there are mistakes that simply cannot be made again)
Turn of the adorable magic drops; when I was painting them I didn't understand how the water effect worked, and the funniest thing is that I still don't understand them completely... so it's a matter of trying and seeing what comes out and what doesn't. What I like most about digital art is the possibility of exploration: being able to delete, add, recover, duplicate and keep trying until you realize that maybe you need more practice than you thought, and that each skill takes time. But if it was easy it wouldn't be interesting.
