Today I want to show you a rhinoceros beetle also known as a bull beetle, despite its imposing and fearsome appearance it is a harmless insect and a great recycler of organic matter so every time I find one I bring it to the garden.
They have a lot of strength and a great grip, as you can see in these photos it has spikes on the legs so when contracted it adheres very well. Of course that is a disadvantage on smooth surfaces so they end up face up without any chance of turning over.
Of these insects there are many types, some have one, two or even three horns like this one I have here. If we look at it well, it is divided into three parts: head, prothorax and body, it has horns both on the head and on the prothorax, giving it the ability to use them as pincers.
There are several colors but the most common in this area are red wines like this, according to what I could read, this should be male since these horns develop more to fight for the privilege of having a partner, they are also capable of lifting the equivalent of 850 times their own weight. Hoy quiero mostrarles un escarabajo rinoceronte también conocido como escarabajo toro, a pesar de su imponente y temible apariencia es un insecto inofensivo y un gran reciclador de materia orgánica por lo que cada vez que encuentro uno lo traigo al jardín.
Tienen mucha fuerza y un gran agarre, como pueden ver en estas fotos posee púas en las patas por lo que al contraerlas se adhiere muy bien. Por supuesto eso es una desventaja en superficies lisas por lo que terminan patas arriba sin ninguna posibilidad de voltearse.
De estos insectos hay muchos tipos, algunos poseen uno, dos o hasta tres cuernos como este que tengo aquí. Si lo observamos bien está dividido en tres partes: cabeza, protórax y cuerpo, posee cuernos tanto en la cabeza como en el protórax, dándole la capacidad de usarlos como tenazas.
Existen de varios colores pero los más comunes en esta zona son los vinotinto como este, de acuerdo con lo que pude leer, este debería ser macho ya que a ellos se le desarrollan más estos cuernos para luchar por el privilegio de tener pareja, además son capaces de levantar el equivalente a 850 veces su propio peso.
