πHey Y'all!π
We made ut to the end! Thanks to everyone who supported my original portrait series, Birds of a Feather. We're at the completion of Series 1, with seven portraits total.
This past winter, I was outside watching birds in the back yard when I had the idea for this series. I wanted to use it as a way for me to improve my digital art skills, specifically with portraits.
The idea was to use a bird as inspiration for a human portrait in some way. This series was also practice using my imagination skills and honing my style.
Imagination and artistic ability are related, but separate entities, in my experience. For me it's really challenging to sketch something great from imagination, and I rely on references to help get my ideas out.
While not all of the portraits came out perfect, sticking with it and posting them all was a meaningful exercise for me. It helped me see where I can improve my skills, and where I'm doing better compared to a few months ago.
My favorite portrait from Series 1 is Blue Heron. She turned out so beautiful all around, she's a total keeper. Plus, I like how the background looks, especially considering I didn't use a reference for that part.
This series was made using IbisPaint app (for phone). The app is great for making my favorites - "Faces and Places" - when I'm away from the studio. It has limitations, but it's still good for what it is. There are a lot of anime artists in the IbisPaint community, but really the app can be used for any kind of subject.
