Brewrery Lunch, Champion Drag Racers, Racing The Storms

Yesterday it took us a bit to get going but we ended up going for lunch with my Dad to the Southgate Brewing which is about the only real restaurant left in Oakhurst. They have the best food and the only local beer on tap.

I laughed hard at the picture over the urinal.

We followed my Dad over to the race shop were we got to see the slew of trophies they have won and got the check out the badass cars. Both are 200mph capable cars with the red one being able to handle a HUGE motor. They have one that is going to get built up that should be about 3500 hp when done.

Thanks to the engine block that is milled from a single block of aluminum. The motor will be comparable to a tuned down NHRA top fuel car and should end up quite competitive when finished. It is not a cheap hobby or sport, that's for sure.

The red car's frame was made by Neil and Parks to handle a top fuel motor, much like the one they are working on building. The rear end and transmission on it are immense and highly over built for the size of the car.

This is the engine that won them numerous championships and regularly runs in the 170-190 mph range.

Once back to the hotel I was digging in the weather looking at the next few days. It looks like what it does at home... Thankfully we are headed south today just ahead of all the storms hitting the Sierras.

My biggest cooncern is getting up and over Tehachapi where they are calling for a LOT of snow today and blizzard conditions. I really hope to be though before it hits this afternoon. Thankfully it is only a few hour drive to get over the pass and into Mojave.

We stay in Vegas tonight by Fremont Street so we will get to go watch the light show and will find somewhere good to eat. It's Vegas so there is nothing but options.
