Yesterday morning I woke to the sounds of the wild turkeys gobbling and the geese honking at dawn. I slept outside in my tent while the boys were in the bunkhouse. They all were up after 7 am and quickly right back to playing.
At 9am we all walked down to the lake and passed this statue on the way down. Neal Fosseen was one of the originators of the camp and I think there is another statue on the other side of the camp.
The boys alternated between swimming, fishing, water wars, and digging in the sand for a an hour and half.
J made his way to the rock and cast from there for a while. Only a couple small fish were caught and thrown back. A small mouth bass and a blue gill.
The lodge had a bunch of these lunchroom style tables that needed to be moved out of the dining hall area and Willy and I moved them out to the loading dock where we loaded them into the back of his dump bed truck. Some Boy scouts came out to help on half of them which was nice as the things are quite heavy.
I picked one out then backed my truck up next to the dock as my bed is a lot shorter than the dump bed. The table fit perfectly in the bed of my truck but I had to finagle everything else we brought in and around it.
We went around and cleaned up the bunkhouse and packed the last things then headed for home a little after noon. Once home I unloaded the table near where I park. I am going to take the table apart so we have two tables and one will end up down by the creek below the trampoline.
The trailer got hooked up then and I strapped the barrels down in the bed of the truck.
I went to check on the traps in the pole garden and when I pulled up the plastic I found the rubber boa mostly buried in the dirt. You can just see the tail in the corner.
I got a coughing fit that lasted a good hour and was the worst I can remember, one of the type that is dry and unproductive and ends up hurting the throat. This garbage in my sinuses keeps draining and causing a awful itch in my throat. It comes in waves and is still messing with me today.
My seeds came in the Azure order so I got them planted in the row by the potatoes on the south end of the main garden. 49 spots in the row with 16 black beauty, 23 dark star, and 10 of the romanesco. I only have the two rows of zucchini and summer squash this year to reduce the glut I end up with.
and I got ready then headed north to the Camden Ranch for our school district Brews For Boosters event. 3 local breweries were there and a local bbq had delicious food. We got to the ranch a bit early and headed inside to check-in. Look at those clouds building up, I had my eye on them most of the evening since we had no reception and no doppler to look at to see the direction of the storm's movement.
As per our norm we were early, just like every morning for drop off at school, and we ran into Kelly who is at drop off. The venue is pretty cool and we had been to it once before many years ago for a friend's wedding.
There was tables setup outside with a number of various packages for the silent auction. We browsed and found a couple that we were serious about.
The remains of the bbq trays were left for anyone who was still hungry. We had had a couple beers and a few tastings during the event. We sat and ate with J's teacher and her husband and great conversations about the school and J.
Before the silent auction there was a heads or tails game and the winner split the pot which was over $1200. It was pretty funny as many were already a bit tossed.
We won both our auctions and paid up and took our stuff to the car. The storm had moved off to the northwest so we were in no danger of it heading our way.
We went back inside for a bit longer to listen to the musician some more then we headed out before the live auction started as we had spent enough already.
The one pack was a gallon of honey and the gift certificate for the classes at he place a few miles up the road. The boys will be going to something using this. The other pack was 4 bottles of mead from Heirophant and also some stadium seats. The mead I am super stoked for as they are carbonated and the Song Of The Elders looks incredible with.
I have been to town this morning for grain and to drop empties and will be going again tomorrow morning. Today I will empty the barrels, maybe do more weedeating, and I need to start building the shelving in the Tardis so I can get the wood out of the elements, and should finish splitting the last of the wood rounds in the yard.
