I don't whinge and complain much; I just don't see the point in it and prefer to simply move on and get shit done. I've got a long way in life in this way, through the application of ownership, responsibility and action - It's carried me along quite nicely.
I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, I'll admit it, and I don't have a university degree but I've graduated from the university of life a few times over so I know up from down and left from right.
Savvy but not smart is probably how I'd describe myself and I'm more of a get after it sort guy than a whinge about it dude. Usually. I've been whinging about a particular thing for the last two weeks though, quite vociferously with the latest whinge-session being as recent as this morning; It was a good one too.
A couple of weeks ago the office announced it will be closing from the 24th of December to the 7th of January with a skeleton staff of those deemed essential all that will remain. Thankfully that doesn't include me although a few of my team will be there. Suckers!
My problem, and the subject of my whinging, was that the 24th was a work day. Seriously? I have to work on Christmas eve? When am I supposed to get my shopping and stuff for Christmas day food, do some cooking and all?
That's not legit office, not legit.
So I whinged to my wife, to my mother in law, to a couple mates and a client and I even had a whinge-session about the sheer stupidity of the 24th being a working day for my office.
But then...
I found out today, by pure luck, that the 24th is indeed not a working day at all and that the 23rd is the final work day of the year for 90% of the office, including me. It seems I misread the email...What did I say earlier? Savvy but not smart. I guess I just gloss over things sometimes, emails from certain people I deem as unimportant for instance. Yeah yeah, I know it's kind of dumb. Savvy but not smart remember? 🤣
So, I managed to gain a bonus day of vacation time and can end my working year a day early on Wednesday 23rd, as it was intended all the way along. I'll be totally honest though, it's extremely unlikely that much work will get done on that day.
I'm pretty glad I didn't make a big deal at the office about the 24th being a working day I might have looked a little stupid, but I don't mind sharing my stupidity with you folks, I know you won't spread it around right? It stays between us!
Have y'all ever whinged about something only to find out later you've simply made an error or oversight? It's happened to me a few times but fortunately not in any situations that would have serious implications. I know you folks are all perfect so never make errors right? But, if you have, feel free to tell me about it below...It might diminish my own dumbassery somewhat and make me feel a little better about it.
