MEP: "I get the feeling that it is, above all, a speculative asset. I don't know if you agree with that.
Expert: "Yes, absolutely. In other words, it is used for many things, apart from speculation, most of which are criminal, but in fact, it is mainly a speculative asset that is not subject to any material value. That is to say, it is true that money is no longer subject to gold, isn't it, that it is no longer valued in that way, but it has other types of anchors in the real world. So, for example, Bitcoin has the luxury of growing by six thousand percent in five years, precisely because its value is absolutely ethereal. That is, it can be worth everything and nothing at the same time. This depends on, well, its power. It's a bit like fairies, isn't it, the more you believe in it (he laughs), the more Bitcoin is worth. And in this case, to believe in it is to generate a lot of interaction within the established points of exchange.
MP: "Do you think we are in a bubble, or not?
Expert: "It is very difficult to call a market that plays with the value of something that does not exist a bubble. In other words, the tulip bubble still gives us the room for manoeuvre to discuss how much a tulip is worth and compare it with other things. Well, if you're hungry... I mean, it leaves room for negotiation with the value of real things, but in this case, we're not even talking about..., well, we're talking about works of art in some cases. We can discuss whether they have more or less value, but in the case of a cryptocurrency, what is the value of the cryptocurrency, fairy dust? It depends on how many people believe in it.
A lot of education is needed, both for users and for those who have to legislate on an issue that directly affects, and will affect even more, our lives. To say that most of the actions that are carried out with cryptocurrencies are criminal is to recognise that one does not know how the blockchain works. Of course, there are smarty-pants trying to take advantage of this new and unknown world for the majority - for the moment - but it wasn't a cryptocurrency wallet they found in someone's father-in-law's attic, it was cash, FIAT money, the kind you and I rely on to buy our bread, despite its devaluation and the indiscriminate use of the printing press.
It remains to be seen how Subway, the world's largest franchise by number of restaurants, is accepting payments in small amounts of Bitcoin in Berlin. It seems that the use of satoshis, the smallest part of a Bitcoin, is popular in that part of Germany. And also, how the Japanese government wants the metaverse to make life easier for students who live far from educational institutions or who suffer from some kind of illness that makes it impossible for them to attend classes in the normal way.

Diputado: «A mí me da la sensación de que es, sobre todo, un bien especulativo. No sé si compartes esto».
Experta: «Sí, absolultamente. O sea, sirve para muchas cosas, a parte de para especular, la mayor parte son criminales, pero efectivamente, es principalmente un bien especulativo que no está sujeto a ningún valor material. Es decir, es verdad que el dinero ya no está sujeto al oro, ¿no?, que ya no se valora de esa manera, pero tiene otro tipo de anclas en el mundo real. Entonces, por ejemplo, Bitcoin se permite el lujo de crecer un seis mil por ciento en cinco años, precisamente porque su valor es absolultamente etéreo. Es decir, puede valer todo y nada a la vez. Esto depende de, bueno, pues de su poder. Es un poco como las hadas, ¿no?, cuanto más crees en él (se ríe), más vale el Bitcoin. Y en este caso, creer en él es generar mucha interacción dentro de los puntos de intercambio establecidos·.
Diputada: «¿Tú crees que estamos en una burbuja, o no?»
Experta: “Es que es muy difícil calificar de burbuja un mercado que juega con el valor de algo que no existe. Es decir, la burbuja de los tulipanes todavía nos ofrece el margen de maniobra de discutir cuánto vale un tulipán y compararlo con otras cosas ¿Qué vale más un tulipán o una barra de pan? Bueno, pues si tienes hambre...Es decir, deja un espacio de negociación con el valor de las cosas reales, pero en este caso, ni siquiera estamos hablando…, bueno, estamos hablando en algunos casos de obras de arte. Podemos discutir si tienen más o menos valor, pero en el caso de una criptomoneda, ¿cuál es el valor de la criptomoneda?, ¿polvo de hadas? Depende de cuánta gente cree en ella».
Hace falta mucha formación, tanto para usuarios/as, como para quienes han de legislar sobre un tema que afecta, y afectará aún más, directamente a nuestras vidas. Decir que la mayoría de las acciones que se llevan a cabo con criptocativos es de de criminales es reconocer que no se conoce el funcionamiento de la blockchain. Por supuesto que hay listillos intentando sacar partido de este mundo tan novedoso y desconocido para la mayoría,- de momento- pero no fue un monedero de criptomonedas lo que encontraron en el altillo del suegro de alguien, fue dinero en efectivo, dinero FIAT, ese en el que usted y yo confiamos para comprar el pan, a pesar de su devaluación y el uso indiscriminado de la imprenta.
Queda pendiente hablar de cómo Subway, la mayor franquicia del mundo por número de restaurantes, está aceptando en Berlín pagos en pequeñas cantidades de Bitcoin. Parece que el uso de satoshis, la parte más pequeña de un Bitcoin, gusta en esa parte de Alemania. Y también, de cómo el gobierno nipón quiere que el metaverso sirva para hacer la vida más sencilla a estudiantes que vivan lejos de los centros de formación o a quienes padezcan algún tipo de enfermedad que les imposibilite atender las clases de forma normal.
