I specially chose to travel to the Northeast China during the Christmas holidays. Unexpectedly, I just met the Winter Solstice during the trip. The tradition of eating dumplings in the Winter Solstice is still preserved in the Northeast. The hostess also very enthusiastically invited me to make dumplings, got a special experience.
Normally, when I travel, I won't have much communication with the hotel owner, but this time is a bit different, because I lived in the host's house, I would eat whatever they eat, and experience the local life.
The destination of this trip was "Snow Valley(雪谷)". I know that everyone knows another famous place called "snow town(雪鄉)". Because its publicity was done better, and there were variety shows to get scene. Maybe everyone is more longing for "snow town(雪鄉)". But I think "Snow Valley(雪谷)" is no worse than "snow town", and its consumption is not as high as snow town, I thought it has more tourism value.
I came to the Northeast to experience the customs of local people's sleeping pits, so I chose this hostel. At that time, I even ate on the pit. It was warm enough!
Everything was so fresh when I first arrived at the B&B , I visited around! When I came to the kitchen, I saw that they used a big frying pan frying something. I was not sure do I know that, cause I seems ever saw and seems never saw, I asked them in curiosity. The hostess said this was called pecan! No wonder I feel familiar. The walnuts we usually eat are fatter and rounder. And pecans are relatively thin, taste … I don’t remember!
It was the winter solstice that night. Before I came, I had no idea that the day was the winter solstice until the hostess invited me to make dumplings with them! Their dumplings are used to stuffing with sauerkraut, which is different from the leek and pork stuffing in our southern.
And their dumplings are so big, I ate a few and fulled my stomach! Because of this dumpling dinner, I also got acquainted with the family of the B&B, and gave me a convenience the next day. As for what happened? Tell you tomorrow!
I really like to integrate into the life of the locals while traveling, and experience the daily life of the locals. This is something I cannot experience with tour groups, and it is also the reason why I like wandering ~
