All are welcome
Nice to say hello to nice people from Hive.
Here I am with my participation for the contest proposed by to talk about the leader for whom I admire.
The leader for whom I have great admiration is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, better known as Mahatma Gandhi. My admiration for him is due to his performance in defending the rights and human respect in a peaceful way, thus inspiring other colleagues of his time.
Gandhi who was born in India on October 2, 1869 and died on January 30, 1948 at the age of 78. He was the most prominent leader of the Indian Independence Movement, he was also a pacifist, politician, thinker and advocate committed to the principles they faced in the Indian nationalist movement. His father was Prime Minister of Porbandar (Gandhi's birthplace) and his mother; Fourth wife of his father, who greatly influenced Gandhi's childhood, inculcating him to not harm any living being and to tolerate other religions.
During his youth he was a little applied student, he could barely pass the admission exam of the University of Munbai in India, there was little that was there since he was presented with the opportunity to study Law at University College London. Upon completion of his studies he returned to India to pursue his profession as a lawyer in which he was unsuccessful.
Due to his failure as a lawyer, he was forced to work for a South African company where he became interested in peacefully defending laws that discriminated against site residents. During his stay in that country, he suffered the calamities of racism, prejudice and injustice, a situation that led him to think about how to help and promote anti-racial discrimination.
Gandhi was imprisoned on several occasions, but this was no obstacle to becoming the hero who would restore the independence of his country; reintegrating into the lower social classes, disapproving of religious conflicts and promoting rural work.
It received from the poet and philosopher Rabindranath Tagore the honorary name of Mahatma; term made up of two words "Maha" which means great and "Atma" which means soul. Poet who considered Gandhi as a man of Alma Grande for his excellent work.
He was a man who established methods of social struggle rejecting the armed struggle and preaching the fight against Nonviolence. He also defended the dictates of the fidelity of conscience.
He was nominated five times for the Nobel Peace Prize, which he never obtained. India awarded him the Peace Prize, which is celebrated every January 30 as the School Day of Non-Violence and Peace, in his honor.
Today the world needs leaders of the stature of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi who forget to fight for their own well-being and focus on the fight for the rights and respect of the community in general, at the same time raising awareness of non-racial discrimination; thus extolling world peace between nations.
"When a law is unfair, the right thing to do is disobey"
Mahatma Gandhi
