Hoy quiero hablar sobre un tema que desde el lunes 09 de Enero está encabezando los principales periódicos del país y revolucionando las redes sociales. Resulta que el segundo periodo del año escolar comenzó con las calles calientes, es decir, con el personal docente, administrativo y obrero en una lucha que sinceramente pienso no tiene marcha atrás.

Más o menos en el mes de Noviembre del pasado año 2022, hubo un día en el que se realizo una asamblea general en las adyacencias de la Zona Educativa del Estado Lara, donde se asomo la posibilidad de una huelga general a nivel nacional, esto con el propósito de exigir mejoras a nivel salarial. La verdad es que yo nunca pensé que las cosas tomarían ese camino, pero la realidad es que la situación económica del magisterio venezolano empeoro con el cierre del año 2022 y sigue empeorando con el transcurso de este 2023 ya que para el día de hoy el dólar paralelo cerró en 22,20 bs por dólar, mientras que el salario de un docente de aula con 40 horas y maestría es de 480,00 bolívares mensual que equivale aproximadamente a 10,81$.
More or less in the month of November of last year 2022, there was a day in which a general assembly was held in the vicinity of the Educational Zone of the State of Lara, where the possibility of a general strike at the national level was raised, this with the purpose of demanding improvements at the salary level. The truth is that I never thought that things would take this path, but the reality is that the economic situation of Venezuelan teachers worsened with the closing of the year 2022 and continues to worsen with the course of this 2023 since today the parallel dollar closed at 22.20 bs per dollar, while the salary of a classroom teacher with 40 hours and mastery is 480.00 bolivars per month which is equivalent to approximately 10.81$.

Es así que quisiera preguntarles a quienes me leen, ¿Trabajarían ustedes por 10,81$ al mes? Creo que la respuesta es obvia y seria que no. Pero entonces ¿Qué pasaría con la educación pública del país? Sinceramente podría desaparecer y lamentablemente no existen tantas instituciones privadas como para satisfacer la demanda de toda la población estudiantil, además que existe una población mayoritaria que no puede cubrir las cuotas de una institución privada.
So I would like to ask those of you who read me, would you work for $10.81 a month? I think the answer is obvious and the answer would be no. But then what would happen to public education in the country? Honestly, it could disappear and unfortunately there are not enough private institutions to satisfy the demand of the entire student population, besides there is a majority of the population that cannot afford to pay the fees of a private institution.
De igual forma, es importante recalcar que todos esos docentes son personas preparadas, muchos de ellos con estudios de doctorados y post-doctorados que no deberían estar pasando por esta triste situación, aunque la verdad nadie tendría que pasar por esto, porque como el mismo Dios lo dice mediante su palabra “El que trabaja es digno de su salario” y todos los empleados públicos de Venezuela merecen un salario digno que pueda cubrir todas sus necesidades básicas y más.
Likewise, it is important to emphasize that all these teachers are prepared people, many of them with doctorate and post-doctorate studies who should not be going through this sad situation, although the truth is that no one should have to go through this, because as God himself says through his word "He who works is worthy of his salary" and all public employees in Venezuela deserve a living wage that can cover all their basic needs and more.
Cada día va acompañado de una actividad y una de ellas se trata de recoger las firmas de apoyo de los padres y representantes; así que hoy la finalidad de esta publicación es exhortar a toda la población a acercarse a las adyacencias de las instituciones educativas y regalarles su firmas a estos docentes que necesitan del apoyo de la colectividad. Yo sé que esto puede ser incomodo, que lo más seguro es que muchos de ustedes estén preocupados por sus hijos y la situación académica de sus hijos, pero tengan la plena seguridad que la lucha del gremio docente es también por sus hijos y que una vez incorporados a las aulas se buscaran las mejores estrategias para recuperar el tiempo perdido. Además no es un tiempo desperdiciado, como lo dicen muchas de las consignas “La clase de hoy la damos en la calle” y “luchando también enseñamos”.
Each day is accompanied by an activity and one of them is to collect signatures of support from parents and representatives; so today the purpose of this publication is to urge the entire population to approach the vicinity of the educational institutions and give their signatures to these teachers who need the support of the community. I know that this may be uncomfortable, that most likely many of you are worried about your children and the academic situation of your children, but rest assured that the struggle of the teachers' union is also for your children and that once incorporated into the classroom the best strategies will be sought to make up for lost time. Besides, it is not a time wasted, as many of the slogans say "Today's class we teach in the street" and "we also teach by fighting".
