Then I saw her face
Now I'm a believer
Not a trace
Of doubt in my mind
The Monkees - I'm A Believer
It's a song about falling in love. It's a song about what it was like before falling, and how it feels after.
Funny thing about believing, you could change the subject of the song to just about anything. Then I saw aliens, now I'm a believer. I doubt most people believe in Bigfoot, but my son sure does. And they've never crossed paths.
Too Many Roads To Travel
I am a believer. Here's one thing I believe in. Beliefs are like roads we travel. There are too many to follow them all. Decisions have to be made.
Everyone has to build roads to get to other roads, but that's off topic. No, I mean the roads of belief. What we cling to and what we cast away.
In this light, I can believe whatever it is that anyone else believes, but I won't necessarily adopt that belief. It may be more accurate a statement to say that I believe that they believe.
A Midsummer Night's Eye Opener
Shakespeare is highly regarded as one of greatest creators of literature in known history. No one knows who he was and I couldn't stand trying to read his prose.
Reading through A Midsummer Night's Dream with the help of my English teacher blew me away. You may might need help translating Shakespeare's old and poetic language, but it's worth every word in gold.
No one. Not a single one of us sees the world the same way. Our worlds collide or we connect them together, but they aren't the same. Nothing you see, touch, or feel is as real as it seems. Shakespeare will prove it to you!
Bridges Of Ideology
Connecting different worlds to each other takes the glue of ideology. Bonds form around a single shared belief. Links become stronger with a multiple of shared beliefs.
These links connect to each other in a sociological net. One made up of shared ideologies. Caught in the net are society and culture, along with all their facets.
Offers A Unique Vantage
Differing belief sets, societies, and whole nations don't always form these connections. It needs no pointing out that sometimes our worlds collide.
Wars are fought and terrible atrocities occur. No doubt there's a darker side without the glue of shared ideology. Bridges can even be burned or fall down, causing the bonds to break.
From the perspective of Shakespeare, the formation of bonds between worlds is a miracle in itself. Assuming that no living creature creates the same reality because we all experience reality differently, even a single bond is quite amazing.
Nature forced our connections in the past as a means of survival. One could argue that until we conquer death, it always will.
Another argument is that the formations of all these bonds between worlds suggests we've already conquered death. That death is just an illusion waiting for a deeper truth to be revealed.
In the final deconstruction, death is the one common bond (besides life) that holds us all together.
What do you believe?
Thanks for reading and as always...
