Good Morning Hivians (or Hivers?)
Back in 2020, every Teams or Zoom meeting officially started with 8 minutes talking about COVID. Now in 2023, there is another topic which is ALWAYS mentioned in the majority of the meetings. And the topic is CHATGPT. Now if you have been on any of my calls you would know that I hate "such AI" talk. I just cannot stand the hype, and honest I feel that it's just hogwash.
# The debates
AI is currently generating lots of debate. There are debates within the "book authoring" community, within our little HIVE community and so on and so forth. I am not interested in going into such rabbit hole debates. However my clear vote would go for "HUMAN CONTENT PLEASE!!". After all, that is the reason I normally stay way clear of Twitter. It's not my interest to interact with bots. (Have you ever used any of the customer service bots? Do you think they are really intelligent?). Bots are bots, they do things intelligently but not much real intelligence!
Now, computer algorithms have advanced from bot technology to generating content and "intelligent answers". That can be a great advantage to humanity, but please don't just copy paste it and make it your own! That is not difference than searching for something and pasting a screenshot of your google results as part of your post.
# Real AI?
Back in my uni days in 2004, the talk about AI taking over the world, taking over the jobs of programmers, take over the world. Has any of that materialized today? Not really! What AI has done over the last couple of decades, it created useful tools for humanity.
However, that doesn't mean that I don't appreciate all of the massive enhancements that "AI" has done in the last few years. For me using productivity tools proofreading, translation, or more advanced tools like "Grammarly" is actually a very positive thing. But do not consider any of these to be "AI"? Hell NO! Last week I heard one guys boasting on LinkedIn that CHATGPT passed a particular Microsoft exam. How much "AI" do you think we need to pass an exam? Isn't that just a "google search", find the exam dumbs and just pass the exam with flying colours??
# AI Art....
However, there is something that I am starting to like more and more - that is AI generated art. This morning I have seen a beautiful post by . I love the attention to detail - the results just look stunning. Have a look at this beautiful image!
Follow for more of these! Love them
So with the inspiration of curamax, this morning I decided to take the tech for a spin. Using StarryAI, I decided to ask the system to give me some cocker spaniels. Have a look at the results here.
- First (right most) - I've asked for a "cocker spaniel on hive"
- Second (second from right) - I've asked just for a "cocker spaniel"
- Third - I've asked for a "cocker spaniel on a shuttle"
- Fourth (left most) - I've asked for a "cocker spaniel on a space shuttle"
)
Creating these was fun. It was enjoyable!
# My parting thoughts for today
AI is not gonna take over the world (yet), it is actually still way behind and we will take years to get there. However we will continue seeing more and more "helper tools" that we should take advantage of whilst always being clear and honest about using these "productivity tools". After all I could have generated that "cocker spaniel on a shuttle" using PhotoShop, but it would have taken me weeks!! With AI it took me 30 seconds. Now have a think about that!
Have a good day everyone and don't forget - Today's Hive Power UP Day!!
Ciao ciao!
