Good morning my friends! May the grace and peace of Our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!
Today in the liturgy we remember the scene of the Last Supper. Jesus and his 12 disciples gather around the table for what was the ceremony of the "Institution of the Eucharist".
Jesus at that moment reveals himself as "true food" ("This is my body") and "true drink" ("This is my blood"). In addition to the institution of the Eucharist, the Last Supper is Jesus' farewell to his friends.
Jesus also reveals a traitor among them; Judas Iscariot.
Judas is the representation of everyone who betrays Jesus for miserable "silver coins". He is the embodiment of our modern man who would rather live the pleasures of the world than live the Gospel, follow Jesus and live a truly full life of abundance and freedom.
Everything in the world passes away, everything in the world corrodes, breaks, wears out. Not in eternity. Eternity is full, constant, unchanging, objective.
Exchanging a moment (30 pieces of silver, as Judas did) for eternity is what many of us are doing when we prefer to live the pleasures of the world and forget God in our lives.
May we be faithful to Jesus, to his word, to following him, and may we not do like Judas who exchanged his life for a few pennies and ended up hanged by his own pride and greed.
Good Day Everyone!
