History teaches us many important things for our life journey into the future. It is wise to never ignore or forget those lessons.
During World War II, our area was one of the areas occupied by Japan, as one of the Axis powers, from 1942 to 1945.
To maintain its occupied territories in the north of the island of Sumatra during this time, the Japanese built bunkers along the northern coastline of Aceh and others to guard the coast from the Allied Forces.
Many of the bunkers can still be seen today, but some are in conditions that are not what they used to be.
A bunker building that we photographed on the coast of Aceh has shifted from its original place due to waves and sea abrasion. But the building is still quite intact, and is still a historical witness even though the bunkers were practically never used in warfare because the Allied Forces never invaded our area until World War II ended.
Another bunker in the same area.
