In my previous post about baltit fort I told its history and some other major areas of this historic more than 700 hundred years old fort. In this post you will know about their lifestyle, culture, dressing, food and also some other interesting things. There is a pictorial library in the fort where you can see pictures of Mir or king of hunza ,picture of princess and also pictures of some other main people living in that area.
Traditional woolen dresses of King and princess in a glass box have been displayed. This is a cold area so you can see very well cold protected clothes made of wool and animal leather.
They have preserved the meal utensils that are still arranged in original look of kitchen. The crockery was made with mud, rock and with different metals. All these things are preserved with their original environment and technique of use.
They have also preserved elegant hand made carpets of that era. After hundreds of years these carpets’ colors and pattern are still fresh. They reflect the detailed artistic work of carpet weavers of that era.
Old polo (chugan) sticks and ball are also showcased. Polo is very popular sport in this area and still Shandour Polo Festival is very famous for being played on World’s highest polo match ground. They also have an old phone and gun on display.
There is some very interesting thing on display like old chines paper money (Currency) used in 1920. A mouse trap they used to capture mouses. A tobacco wooden pipe.
In this fort wood was used for decoration work. So you can see some fancy wood work there. There is also a wood doom mainly for natural light. Some interesting Persian calligraphy writing on wood is displayed.
If you plan a visit to northern area of Pakistan then you must consider visiting Baltit fort.
