When I planned a visit to the northern area of Pakistan and did some homework about the common wildlife of that area. In this search, I marked many unique birds and animals living in this area. Marmot is a very interesting animal to explore. I thought it would be difficult to find Marmots during this visit as they live in a high altitude area. When I was going to visit Khunjerab Pass, the highest border between China and Pakistan, I saw these beauties. They live at elevation of 10,000 to 15,000 feet.
They were easily found as they were living on the slopes of Khunjrab road. They were very noisy and you can track them from their sound. They were communicating with each other with sound. They are very shy, if they see any human, they hide in burrows.
They mostly live in groups. They are active during the summer and are commonly seen in hill slopes but in winter they hibernate underground.
During travel on Karakoram highway, I saw a unique rock having shape of Marmots. I hope that authorities might protect this rock and save it for tourists.
