The paramedic begins with a lot of screams. There is tension, an accident and the introduction of who the paramedic is. He is called to the scene and then it cuts to reveal more about who else the paramedic has in his life ;a lover and an elderly neighbor with a barking dog.
There is sex, his pretty lover wants to have a baby. They've been trying for a while and we find out in later scenes that the paramedic is impotent.
You can feel the heavy air hanging over the film. The incessant barking of the dog. I have a feeling he'd kill it. He does. But let's retrace our steps back to the original accident. The paramedic has an accident while on an accident scene. He loses function of his legs. The driver of the ambulance survives with no loss of function. And this is where the drama begins.
I have seen people compare the paramedic to Netflix's Joe in 'You' but I think this is an unfair comparison. Joe was psychotic, but he was a man of culture and a sweet person. Angel on the other hand was a disturbed man. You could feel the bad vibes.
All through this movie, I felt my allegiance changing. It would shift from Angel to Vane, his lover. Why? Well, in the beginning, I felt bad for Vane who I felt was being gaslighted for the things she wanted;a baby, a job working with animals because she studied canine psychology and I could see Angel's desperation to use his disability to guilt trip her into loving him more. I understood the real fear of being left by himself now that he was dependent.
But then I felt cheater vibes from Vane. She lied about her relationship with Ricardo; the man who drove the ambulance and who angel had suspected of being in an affair with her. My feelings grow in intensity to real upset because in the whole world, why would the man who survived an accident and was responsible for your boyfriend's situation be your next choice for a partner. I don't care how loving he is to you, but that's a complexity that would hurt deeply when your current lover finds out. And it did. It turned angel into that psycho who held her hostage, did an epidural on her to level her up her up with him and his disability situation.
One of the things I find really weird, even though I understand how movies are make-believe is how people in movies don't ever notice that there's an installed app on their device. A hacker app. Do they just use their phones for one singular purpose because I rate myself very highly in the 'spot the difference' in your phone game. I would definitely notice an app for sure.
The end of this movie was surprising. I'm not sure I understood it. It ends with a pregnant Vane(Ricardo's) picking Angel from what I think was a hospital after their very dramatic fight where Angel falls down many stairs and becomes very immobile in a wheelchair, even though I'd thought he'd be in prison for murdering the dog and his neighbor and of course Ricardo. I don't know where she goes to with him although her 'I will take of you now' felt sinister.
I want to add that I loved the brown tones in angel's living space. Really avoiding the use of 'earthy', although that should be more accurate.
I recommend this.
