Hence why, apologize if I have not been able catching up with all of post from this challenge. However, I do appreciate all of you who have tagged me, I promise I will see them. Due this circumstances, I have plenty back logs that I have to do thus, expect a little delay.
Today, I am going to continue this blogging challenge in Day 14. I find this question very intriguing and I will try to answer based on what I personally believe.
Thoughts on Education
How important is education?
I narrowed down the topic into a smaller scope which I could answer. The question itself is a massive topic with a lot of layers that we can choose. I choose to focus on the importance of education because it has been one of the theme in my life and possibly some people around me.
Growing up, I have been taught that education matters more than anything. Education is all there is in life. It is the gateway to climb the ladder in society, it is a way to increase wealth, a way to be respected and a way to blend and contribute in society. These thoughts have been instilled to me because we are coming from a middle class background with me being the prospect for the backbone of the family. This reflected into how much my parents willing to invest into my education. I went to prestigious schools, took up a lot of extra activities, and we would go extra miles just to get me into the best education there is in the country.
When I was younger, I did not separate education from formal institution. I went to school just because my parents told me to. Until about 15 years old, I started viewing education differently. When I started online and exploring the online world, I wondered if school matters anymore.
Generally, I am not someone who attended classes. I would rather spend my time at the library reading whatever books I fancied. I think that a good education is when we are free to explore a topic free to ask questions no matter how ridiculous that sounds. So, I approach education as a way to actually learn not to get a job. In the end though, I realized that it is my ideal version of education and not everyone thinks the same as I do.
Then, as I grew up, I understood that an education is needed. It is extremely important in order to thrive in this world. One of the most regretful things I did was not to take my education too seriously. Sure, I did above average without studying but if I were to seriously study, I would have not suffered as much as I do now. However, at this time around I also learned about college drop outs and high school graduates who made their name. It was interesting to see that somewhere in this world, a formal education is not regarded as important anymore. But since I am not coming from that side of the world, I would still argue that a formal education is all there is to help us climb the ladder and create a form of security.
Even with my most progressive view on education, in which I believe that one can get education from anywhere, anytime and from anybody, having to live in a developing country, titles and formal education are still highly regarded. People viewed you differently and will treat you differently. For these are something I experience too. Only because I study in X place, there are some adjectives attached to me such as " smart", "wealthy", "capable", "a future leader", etc. While to be honest, I am not wealthy nor I think I am too smart. These attributes are ridiculous and I always view it with slight disdain since I know how actually is out there.
Another thing I would like to add is, having a good education and being educated mean there will be plenty opportunities and plenty options to live our best version of life. It does not matter where you get the education or from who, what matters is how you can apply those education to better yourselves and the greater good.
That being said, though I think progressively about education, I still live in a world where the old thinking still thrive. Hence why, I could not deny that a formal education is the gateway to climb the ladder in my society and has massive importance.
