Hola, amigos de Hive, si han leído algunos de mis post, quizá habrán notado que me gustan mucho los tiempos antiguos y por lo tanto me agrada hablar de diversos temas que tienen que ver con el pasado, así que en esta ocasión abriré una pequeña ventana para que puedan descubrir como eran los tratamientos de belleza que usaban las mujeres en la era victoriana, tratamientos que la mayoría de las veces eran altamente perjudiciales para la salud.
Hello, friends of Hive, if you have read some of my posts, you may have noticed that I really like ancient times and therefore I like to talk about various topics that have to do with the past, so this time I will open a small window so that you can discover how were the beauty treatments that people used in the victorian era, treatments that most of the time were highly harmful to health.
En la era victoriana, surgió una extraña tendencia pues a los hombres les resultaba muy atractiva la extrema palidez y fragilidad que mostraban las jóvenes enfermas de tuberculosis (una enfermedad bastante popular de aquella época) y por lo tanto muchas mujeres recurrían a los más absurdos recursos para conseguir esa enfermiza apariencia.
In the Victorian era, a strange trend emerged because men were very attractive to the extreme paleness and fragility that young women with tuberculosis showed (a very popular disease of that time) and therefore many women resorted to the most absurd resources to get that sick look.
Por otra parte, en esa época salió a la venta un libro escrito por S.D Powers llamado Ugly Girl Papers que contenía la mayoría de esos consejos tan peligrosos para «realzar» la belleza.
On the other hand, around that time a book by S.D Powers was released (Ugly Girl Papers) that contained most of these dangerous tips for "enhancing" beauty.
Sustancias tóxicas para blanquear la piel/Toxic substances for skin whitening
En esa época tener pecas, acné o cualquier otra imperfección era intolerable dentro de la alta sociedad, al igual que tener la piel bronceada ya que daba la impresión de que la persona pertenecía a la clase proletaria, y que por lo tanto probablemente debía ganarse el sustento diario trabajando bajo el sol.

No era necesario remover el vello de todo el cuerpo pues, los trajes de aquella época cubrían bastante a la mujer, por lo lo tanto, ellas solo se dedicaban a retirar el escaso, pero indeseable vello que pudieran tener en el rostro, aunque a veces se depilaban las piernas. No obstante, en ese tiempo no usaban las ceras que existen hoy en día, así que recurrían a elaborar una especie de pasta con arsénico o cloruro de cal que supuestamente debilitaría el vello, esto les trajo como consecuencias quemaduras en la piel.

Una de las cosas que obsesionaba a las mujeres de esa época era tener una cintura muy pequeña, por esta razón usaban corsés que no solo moldeaban sus figuras, sino que la mayoría de las ocasiones los usaban tan apretados que causaban graves escoliosis y otras deformidades óseas, además de comprimir los órganos internos.

Ingerir una Tenia para mantenerse delgadas/Eating a tapeworm to stay slim
Las mujeres amaban ser esbeltas pero ¿cómo lo conseguían sin sacrificar las deliciosas comidas y postres? La respuesta es simple, solo tenían que ingerir una Tenia, o «Gusano de solitaria» como también se les llama. Este parásito impide que la persona engorde, por mucho que se alimente. Sin embargo es muy perjudicial para la salud pues la persona se debilita por falta de nutrientes.
Women loved being slim but how did they get it without sacrificing delicious foods and desserts? The answer is simple, they only had to ingest a Tapeworm, This parasite prevents the person from gaining weight, no matter how much they eat. However, it's very harmful to health as the person weakens due to lack of nutrients.
