Greetings, fellow sentient beings!
It has been some time since I last presented an artist from my hometown. And that would be Karnobat, Bulgaria.
About a year has passed since I last was in the atelier of the painter and sculptor Nencho Russev.
This time, it's similar but it's also different. G.E. says he's an amateur, an engineer by education and carving wood for only about three years and a half now in his garage. Well, I did see some pretty neat sketches he did back in the 1980s when he was young. Back to visual arts now near the age of 60...All right, he actually turned 60 on the day I shot the series. It is a hobby he dedicates a lot of time to.
A close up of artwork by G.E., A.K.A. Ge Wood Art.
Well, I wrote this was a preview but I am not sure if I shall proceed with a full series. This might be the only photograph I share from that session. We shall see. The artist has a Fb page and I shall provide it in the comments if anybody is interested and would like to see more.
I shall just mention a few topics you might find among the works of..."Ge" ;)
I've seen dancers and other ladies which is quite common, but also...
Dervish...
An earthquake...
The artist's cats.
A single artwork takes about four to ten days according to their maker. One could imagine the patience it takes to chip away the spare material and find the figure that waits inside. And then...the polishing...manual work, perhaps wax sometimes but no other stuff. "Ge" described that as the more painful process.
Then again, he said the same for the photo session ;)
Cheers!
