I'm going to take down those two apple trees. 95% of what they produce is rotten. We're going to plant something else in their place.
I'm probably going to take them down only when the snow is gone but there are many small branches to cut and crush. I'm also going to have to trim the hedges, which is a lot of work so why not start now. This is good exercise. I put some grit on that ice yesterday for safety. That machine is an electrical crusher. This is the only realistic method to get rid of the branches because we don't have a trailer. Neither of our cars has a trailer hitch. I once asked what installing one would cost and the answer was €600. A trailer with a large enough canopy to be useful would cost something to the tune of between €2000 and €3000.
That crusher cost me about €160. Power isn't free, of course. But I think this is a cheaper option in the final analysis. The trailer would also take up space. So this will do. A trailer could be borrowed or rented, of course. Crushing those branches is surprisingly easy once you cut them up correctly before putting them into the machine.
