The verses I share with you today are composed in anapestic trimeter. It means that each line has three metrical feet that sound ta-ta-TA. The anapestic rhythm is a favorite for comic poetry (like limericks). I am glad I can share this little piece of children's lit of my creation with you :)
Horacia Drinks from the Fishbowl
Love my water nutritious and clear.
Though my human mom thinks it’s not right,
from the fishbowl, I drink with astounding delight.
Drink a lot through the day and the night.
I get here the magnesium I must
to sleep well which is vital indeed.
As for my choice of food
I like my meat well stewed
with no salt, or sugar or seasoning.
I’m a learned little lady and witty,
learned to read when I was just a kitty.
And this is why I know what I should eat or not,
and know this, it is nothing I’d caught.
Not a mouse or gecko I’ll eat,
nothing that I’ve seen using their feet.
They are game but to play;
they could never be prey,
the main course or dessert, not for me.
Cats, in my opinion but also in the opinion of many, have the power to ward off sadness and other negative emotions.
Whenever I feel sad or distressed, I take refuge in the softness of my kitties. Somehow the caress of their silky fur tells me that this is also what the world is made of. I'll skip, for now, the shocks, the howling and yowling, the scratching… Let us think of how funny they can be sometimes--many times--even when they misbehave.
Having a cat, several--or many, for the brave--is not only comforting, it can be quite fun. Take the case of my cat Horacia; a different cat, perhaps, would try to get the fish out of the fishbowl, but not her; she sticks her tongue in the best she can and drinks from their water. We have scolded her in a thousand ways, but apparently, there is no solution. Also, the fish are healthier than ever, so not big deal so far.
I love writing poems, and cats are definitely one of my favorite subjects. Here's one I wrote for lady Mocaccino, Horacia's sister: Huntress in Distress; here's one a wrote for Flecha, Horacia's mother: No CopyCAT; and here's one I wrote for Canela, Horacia's nemesis: Friends? I love sharing these pieces with you :)
