El sol se jubiló,

The sun retired,
after working for many years,
and in its place left
a lamp that shone even brighter,

One day, a thieving cat
came to this spot,
stuffed the lamp into its backpack,

El señor Manzana salió de casa
y no encontró la lámpara,

and one day the cat returned to steal
and tried to reach the new sun,
but couldn’t manage it.
The thieving cat left in a huff,
unable to take the new sun with him,
and the city was left bathed in intense light,
illuminated and devoid of mystery,
with a modern sun.
