Dejé unas hojas sobre la mesa
de las que guardan la mazorca fresca,
y entre todas éstas,
se asomó una vaina de mirada tierna,
de las que al quitar los granos en la basura quedan.
Ella sin miedo se levantó
y una hoja pequeña escogió,
la fue trayendo con dedicación
y sobre su vaina la colocó,
poco a poco se cubrió.
I left some leaves on the table
the kind that keep the fresh corn cob fresh
and among them all,
a pod peeked out with a tender gaze,
the kind that’s left behind when you remove the kernels and toss them in the trash.
She stood up without fear
and chose a small leaf,
carried it over with care,
and placed it over her pod,

Tomó otra hoja más grande
y se vistió de manera hábil,
parece una mazorca que granos trae
y se recuesta entre las otras con afanes,

Tras un rato llega un ser colorido
un ciempiés que camina con estilo,
hacía las hojas camina solito
buscando algo exquisito,
un alimento que le quite el apetito.
It took another, larger leaf
and skillfully wrapped itself in it,
looking like an ear of corn full of kernels,
and lay down among the others with haste,
as if hiding from something.
After a while, a colorful creature arrives,
a centipede walking with style,
making its way alone toward the leaves,
searching for something exquisite,
a treat to satisfy its appetite.
Una vaina encuentra entre las hojas
y se la lleva con fuerza asombrosa,
la otra vaina se oculta con zozobra,
hasta que decide ayudar a la otra
y sale de su escondite entre las hojas.
Se juntan las dos vainas
y enfrentan al ciempiés con calma,
el pobre huye de forma inmediata

One pod finds a centipede among the leaves
and carries it away with astonishing strength;
the other pod hides, filled with anxiety,
until it decides to help the first
and emerges from its hiding place among the leaves.
The two pods come together
and calmly face the centipede,
the poor creature flees immediately,
and the two pods remain joined—
now they know that together they are stronger than they thought.
Y una vez más se demuestra,
