Security Alert: Please Be Careful of Suspicious Links
I'm sharing this to at least warn others, just so no one would make the same mistake that I made.
So, it happened that I received a message on an account with the name , just as shown in the first image below. I saw it yesterday morning, and I was actually rushing to work, but then I wanted to handle my notifications first before my battery runs down.
So, without properly checking and going on to see what the account was all about, if it was a suspicious one or not and all, I just clicked on the link after reading a few lines and saw that they said they are doing stuff for a few people who were still holding or have never powered down.
When I clicked on the link, it led me to another place, as seen in the second image, it surprised me, I should be logged in immediately, why is it still asking for my password, then I just thought to go ahead, and without having a second thought about it, I input my username and password. I did, but it didn't go through or log me in, and that was how my phone went off.
So, I prepared for work and was very busy for the rest of the day, around 3 in the afternoon, I had charged my phone, so around that time,3 to 4, I checked my account and was even thinking of withdrawing some HBDs, that's when I discovered that my account has been tampered with. The little HBD I had staked has been unstaked, my hive power was powered down, and the few HBD and liquid hive I had have been transferred out. Upon checking, I saw that it was sent to an account named , I looked into the account and couldn't find anything, no post, no followers, nothing, I checked the account history of the account and saw it, my fund were received by it, and it has even swapped the ones received.
Immediately I stopped/cancelled the hive power that has been powered down and my little staked HBD that has been unstaked, and I reached out to my brother, . He was the one who asked me questions and all, while I then sent him the screenshot of the link I clicked and he helped look into it. He told me I should have seen the account was of a very low reputation and I should have known it's suspicious, but as at then, I didn't even check before clicking.
So, after reviewing what has happened and all, he helped and advised that it's best to change all of my keys, which with his help has now been done. And upon thinking about it and all, I discovered it was a phishing attempt, I shouldn't have entered my key in the first place, or better still, reach out to my brother first before doing anything, just so to be on the safe side.
So please, even if the interface of the link you see or clicked looked like that of hive and such, once it asks for your keys, kindly make sure to verify well and ask others about it before inputting it. Always take your time and not be in haste like I was.
It's my mistake and I take responsibility for this, I shouldn't have input my keys in an unverified link/URL. But I hope this post will go a long way to stop and prevent someone else from falling into the same trap or from becoming a victim of the same.
And for transparency and community safety, I am bringing this to the attention of for review.
Thanks a lot for stopping by to read, kindly share so others can be more security conscious.
