I've finally taken the big decision of becoming a pescatarian after giving it so much thoughts. This is such a huge step for me than it actually sounds and I have to be cautious of what I eat outside my home. I've been feeding of meat, egg and diary products all my life but actually just began realizing how some of these foods affected my life. I grew up in a household were meat was a big deal and we slaughtered animals ranging from goats, sheep, fowls and cows (sometimes during festivities).
A pescatarian is different from a vegetarian because they consume fish and other seafoods as well as vegetables and fruits unlike vegans who don't eat any animal products ( seafoods included). I actually never had an issue with consuming products from animals but I realized lately that they had the biggest ratio of my diet while plants (vegetables, grains, fruits and nuts) had the least, even lower than junks.
I've been very cautious of my health lately with the high rise of news on deadly diseases, death of young folks and rapid development of age related disease in young people. This caused me to take a step back and access by lifestyle. I'm keen on physical exercises and do really hectic exercises at least twice a week. But it doesn't just end there. Having a healthy lifestyle isn't just about exercising, not smoking or taking drugs.
There's a popular saying that goes "You Are What You Eat" and if I was to judge by that, I'm probably one of those with the worse diet. I take a lot of energy drinks and less water, more if fried foods than boiled, more junks than vegetables and more meat than fruits.
There are so many reasons why people change their dieting which could also be for spiritual or activism purposes but mine is just for a healthier lifestyle. I actually wanted to be a strict vegan diet but I can't do that because I feel I'll be missing out on some important proteins and vitamins from animals which I can derive from animals like fish and snail. This is why I chose pescatarianism where I'll be consuming vegetables and fruit as I substitutite meat with fish and seafoods that have low cholesterol levels and are more nutritious.
I'll be sharing my pescatarian journey, dieting and other experiences here as time goes on. I hope to get the full benefits of this newly chosen lifestyle. Thank you.
