Hoy es un buen momento para recordar una de las etapas más hermosas y representativas que viví cuando era más joven, sin duda experiencias que volvería a repetir, me ayudó en muchos aspectos, me disciplinó y me enseñó el valor de la responsabilidad, llegar temprano, tener sentido de pertenencia y por supuesto un amor por la música y el arte.
Today is a good time to remember one of the most beautiful and representative stages that I lived when I was younger, without a doubt experiences that I would repeat again, it helped me in many aspects, disciplined me and taught me the value of responsibility, arriving early, have a sense of belonging and of course a love for music and art.
Les contaré mi historia, hace muchos años fui integrante de una gran banda caraqueña, reconocida en toda Venezuela por ser una de las mejores, en mi humilde opinión la mejor, en un principio se llamaba "Banda Show Liceo Independencia", donde estudié el bachillerato, en las tardes libres vi tocar a esta banda en ciertos eventos de la institución, desde entonces me llamó la atención y asistí a las prácticas para pertenecer a ella, el instrumento musical que me asignaron fue la trompeta, la verdad es que yo quería involucrarme en la percusión, pero esas secciones ya estaban llenas, de la misma manera me dediqué y aprendí a tocar la trompeta, al principio fue bastante complicado, no era tan simple como pensaba. Después de un tiempo perdí el interés poco a poco hasta que dejé de ir.
I will tell you my story, many years ago I was a member of a great Caracas band, recognized throughout Venezuela for being one of the best, in my humble opinion the best, at first it was called "Banda Show Liceo Independencia", where I studied high school On free afternoons I saw this band play at certain events at the institution, since then it caught my attention and I attended the practices to belong to it, the musical instrument that they assigned me was the trumpet, the truth is that I wanted to get involved on percussion, but those sections were already full, in the same way I dedicated myself and learned to play the trumpet, at first it was quite complicated, it was not as simple as I thought. After a while I lost interest little by little until I stopped going.
Un instructor de la banda, el señor Manuel Rosas, a quien tengo mucho respeto, se me acercó un día y me preguntó por qué no había asistido más, lo saludé cordialmente y le hablé con sinceridad, le dije que no me gustó la trompeta, y que sólo me interesaba tocar el tambor, me dijo, te espero esta tarde, no perdía nada así que me presenté, a cambio me puso otro instrumento llamado trombón, en ese momento solo pensé que era peor que la trompeta, mucho más grande, con una varilla que había que colocar en varias posiciones para hacer sonar las notas musicales, cuando en la trompeta sólo eran 3 pistones con diferentes combinaciones, pero la verdad es que la primera vez que lo toque fue amor a primera vista.
A band instructor, Mr. Manuel Rosas, whom I have a lot of respect for, approached me one day and asked me why I had not attended more, I greeted him cordially and I spoke to him sincerely, I told him that I did not like the trumpet, And that I was only interested in playing the drum, he told me, I'll wait for you this afternoon, I didn't lose anything so I introduced myself, in exchange he gave me another instrument called a trombone, at that moment I just thought it was worse than the trumpet, much bigger, with a rod that had to be placed in various positions to sound the musical notes, when on the trumpet there were only 3 pistons with different combinations, but the truth is that the first time I touched it it was love at first sight.
Empezó una etapa de querer aprender todo al mismo tiempo, me gustó el sonido del trombón, su forma de entrelazarse con el resto de instrumentos, le daba un toque mágico y único a cada pieza que tocábamos. Llegó la parte de aprender un orden cerrado, tipo militar, con rangos de disciplina y años de servicio, con voz de mando y respeto dentro de cada sección. Puedo decir con orgullo que en su momento me convertí en el mejor de mi sección, ganando el puesto de jefe de instrumentos por excelencia entre mis otros compañeros, aprendiendo muy rápido todas las notas de la música, con la mejor afinación, posturas y coreografías, era muy bueno. Con esta banda viajé por toda Venezuela, visitando pueblos que solo había leído en libros de biografía, conociendo el nombre y las diferentes costumbres de cada región, fue una excelente enseñanza y ahora valoro cada ciudad y pueblo de mi amado país.
A stage began of wanting to learn everything at the same time, I liked the sound of the trombone, its way of intertwining with the rest of the instruments, it gave a magical and unique touch to each piece we played. The part of learning a closed order, military type, with ranges of discipline and years of service, with a voice of command and respect within each section arrived. I can proudly say that at the time I became the best in my section, winning the position of chief instrument par excellence among my other colleagues, learning very quickly all the notes of music, with the best tuning, postures and choreography, It was very good. With this band I traveled throughout Venezuela, visiting towns that I had only read in biography books, knowing the name and the different customs of each region, it was an excellent teaching and now I value each city and town in my beloved country.
Representamos con orgullo nuestra bandera, en mi etapa final como integrante de la banda, homenajeamos a Venezuela en una feria internacional de shows de bandas que se llevó a cabo en Tunja, ciudad de Colombia, por cierto una de las ciudades más frías del territorio Colombiano. Fue impresionante, el viaje fue una odisea, pero valió la pena cada momento y cada tropiezo en el camino, fue la experiencia más hermosa y lo recuerdo con cariño porque logramos tomar el primer lugar como la mejor actuación de bandas internacionales, nunca pensé que llegaría tan lejos, pero esta gran familia me enseñó que los sueños pueden hacerse realidad. Siempre quise ir al desfile de bandas más importante del mundo, el desfile de rosas en Estados Unidos, nunca fuimos invitados, pero no dudó que nuestra participación abría jugado un papel increíble, donde todos disfrutarían del mejor espectáculo que sólo la gran Banda de Espectáculos Francisco de Miranda podía ofrecer.
We proudly represent our flag, in my final stage as a member of the band, we paid tribute to Venezuela in an international fair of band shows that took place in Tunja, city of Colombia, by the way one of the coldest cities in the Colombian territory . It was impressive, the trip was an odyssey, but it was worth every moment and every stumble along the way, it was the most beautiful experience and I remember it fondly because we managed to take first place as the best performance of international bands, I never thought it would come so far away, but this great family taught me that dreams can come true. I always wanted to go to the most important parade of bands in the world, the parade of roses in the United States, we were never invited, but did not doubt that our participation played an incredible role, where everyone would enjoy the best show than only the great Francisco Show Band Miranda could offer.
