Hello everybody, how are you doing? For those who do not know, I am a medical student, currently in the fifth year.

For two weeks I have been rotating through the Adult Intensive Care Unit, and the truth is that it is quite strong.

Initially because the head of the emergency is quite demanding, understandable by the area in which we work but I speak to you as a student, yes, he is strong.

Hola a todos, como andan? Para los que no saben, yo soy estudiante de Medicina, actualmente cursando quinto año.

Desde hace dos semanas he estado rotando por la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos de adultos, y la verdad es que es bastante fuerte.

Inicialmente porque el Dr jefe de la emergencia es bastante exigente, entendible por el área en el que nos desempeñamos pero les hablo como estudiante, si, es fuerte.

The schedule is not flexible at all and the responsibilities are many, it is an introduction to what our day to day will be when we graduate, honestly this is what wears out the most as students, we have guard every 4 days, 40 hours, leaving very little time to study, if it is achieved but by pure pressure.

By pure chance, my rotation group is my usual friends, I tell them it was a coincidence because the draw for the rotation and guard groups is made by our coordinator with little pieces of paper in a bowl.

It seems that I was complaining, but no, I really tell you what it is to study medicine, do not get me wrong, I love the career I chose to study and I do not regret it for a second.

El horario no es para nada flexible y las responsabilidades son muchas, es una introducción a lo que será nuestro dia a dia cuando estemos graduados, sinceramente esto es lo que más nos desgasta como estudiantes, tenemos guardia cada 4 dias, de 40 horas, dejando muy poco tiempo para estudiar, si se logra pero por purita presión.

De pura casualidad mi grupo de rotación son mis amigos de siempre, les digo que fue casualidad porque el sorteo de los grupos de rotación y de guardia los hace nuestro coordinador con papelitos en un bol.

Pareciera que me estuviera quejando, pero no, les cuento realmente lo que es estudiar medicina, no me malinterpreten, amo la carrera que escogí a estudiar y no me arrepiento ni un segundo.

Another of the things that we have had to deal with has been patients in very bad condition, "living" by being connected to a ventilation machine, or by treatments that extend life.

Hopeful relatives, others not so concerned, and those who do not rest to be aware of whatever the patient needs.

The truth is, if they only had an understanding of everything that is behind a doctor and all the efforts that are made, people would have a little more awareness when it comes to taking care of themselves.

My rotation through the intensive care unit lasts 4 weeks, I still have to be, and a lot to learn, this is where the good comes from.

Otra de las cosas con las que nos ha tocado lidiar han sido pacientes en muy mal estado, "viviendo" por estar conectado a una máquina de ventilación, o por tratamientos que alargan la vida.

Familiares esperanzados, otros no tan preocupados, y los que no descansan por estar al pendiente de cualquier cosa que necesite el paciente.

La verdad, si tan solo tuvieran entendimiento de todo lo que está detrás de un médico y todos los esfuerzos que se hacen, las personas tuvieran un poco más de consciencia a la hora de cuidarse.

Mi rotación por la unidad de cuidados intensivos dura 4 semanas, aun falta por estar, y mucho por aprender, aquí es donde viene lo bueno.
