The Australian Kookaburra featured three times on some early stamps. I guess there loud laughing afternoon and morning calls make them an iconic part of the Australian landscape, why not put them on a stamp or two. There are probably quite a few more on more recent Australian stamps too but I will try to feature them in some sort of date issued order. It is probably my favourite Australian bird with its strong looking features. They can be quite cheeky and have been known to steal a sausage straight off the barbeque or even out of your hand or plate right in front of you, if your not paying close attention.
My 1914 six penny could have been one of my most valuable Australian stamps if not for a few perforations missing and a few holes. I don't mind too much though as long as there not too heavily franked.
My 1928 blue 3d is probably near throw away condition but I will hang on it it until a better one comes my way.
The 1932 version features a much younger looking kookaburra and my one is in much better condition but still not worth much as there must have been more issued than in the early days.
I have included a photo of a real Kookaburra sitting on our fence for reference. I think the lady next door likes to feed they so they are often hanging around.
I like their feathers too we often find them on some of the local nature trails we walk on.
