So the traditionalist had there way and soon after Australia's first stamp was out a more traditional design was issued for those times. The Kings Head with a Kangaroo and Emu sort of like a Coat of Arms. This King was way before my time and I have no idea what he was really like but going by how long the stamps were made and issued the Kangaroo inside the map of Australia was a lot more popular as it was issued 1913 to 1946 and the King George the fifth 1913\14 to 1936. At first I thought it was like the Kangaroo won by 10 years but King George died in 1936 so I suppose they stopped issuing them.
I should known a bit more about King George the fifth, me being of British background and living in a Commonwealth Country but I suppose Parliament has taken over and was now calling all the shots. He and the rest of Royalty was more just head of State.
There were 24 different variations, I had more of them than I thought but there all so similar and a bit boring. Looking online they do not seem to be worth much compared to the first kangaroos but to be fair they did not come out with the higher denominations. Comparing both the 5 penny kangaroo and king there roughly the same. I suppose it must have been harder to keep the print on the stamp centred in the old days. perfectly squared and centre seemed to be worth a lot more, lots of mine are quite off centre.
To me the over prints are a bit more appealing.
