Often times, we complain of how hard life is, how things aren't aligning the way we envision them, and many bunches of complaints, but have you really sat down to thank God for the life you are living? Even in hard times? Even when the going gets tough? Even when life feels so overwhelming?
To most people, gratitude for life is not their thing. We live as if we own our lives without knowing that within a twinkling of an eye, death can come knocking and that becomes the end of our journey. At that point, you can beg to be extremely poor and live, but life is already far away. The thing is that we should embrace gratitude to God, whether good or bad, as long as we are breathing; there is hope.
Someday, things will take shape, and we will smile.
I was speaking with a close friend about gratitude a few days ago, and she said, "Nkem, I truly believe that in a state of gratitude there can be no sadness." Even on days when everything seems gloomy, I focus on the fact that I am breathing and have life and can take care of the gloominess. It makes the outcome sweeter and alleviates any stress".
That was a direct word that captivated my heart. No matter the ups and downs of life, life is the ultimate, and when you become happy intentionally, sadness will be very far.
Early in the morning yesterday, a trailer had an accident on the highway close to my house, and a woman crossing the road by then got hit by the trailer and she died instantly. Only for me to realize that she is one of our church members. A woman I sing together with in our programs just died without saying goodbye. This evening, many of us visited her home to sympathize with her husband and children; on reaching there, I couldn't control the tears rolling down my cheeks. The husband cried and wished that all they had be taken away while his wife returned back to life. He was going crazy, same with the children. What a tragedy!
It can be anybody, and that's why we must be grateful to God each day no matter the obstacles of life. It's also a moment of reflection for those of us alive. Death is scary and can come any day and any time. We must strive to live right in order not to suffer again after life on earth.
