Hola mi bella comunidad de #Hive, como siempre esperando que estén muy bien. Como ya saben, soy profesora de inglés y me encanta enseñar, me atrevo a decir que es lo que me ha apasionado desde que empecé la carrera. Con la practica he aprendido que es importante tomar en cuenta algunos aspectos PERO para saber expresarte y entender lo que te están comunicando no es necesario ser completamente bilingüe. Estos son 7 consejos que te doy a continuación te servirán:
Hello my beautiful #Hive community, as always hoping you are doing great. As you already know, I am an English teacher and I love teaching, I dare to say that it is what I have been passionate about since I started my career. With practice I have learned that it is important to take into account some aspects BUT to know how to express yourself and understand what you are communicating it is not necessary to be completely bilingual. These are 7 tips that I give you below that will help you:
1) Confianza en ti mismo:
Me he dado cuenta como docente que los estudiantes tienden a bloquearse y a apenarse al momento de expresarse, sienten que creen que lo arruinaran si no lo hacen bien, pues nooo, ¡¡¡es un mito!!! Por lo menos yo valoro la seguridad de los estudiantes, el tono de voz y la motivación que tenga, el resto solo queda corregir y, en ocasiones, para mí, pasa a segundo plano cuando observamos el empeño y es esfuerzo.
1) Self-confidence:
I have noticed as a teacher that students tend to block and grieve when expressing themselves, they feel that they think they will ruin it if they don't do it right, well nooo, it's a myth!!!! At least I value the confidence of the students, the tone of voice and the motivation they have, the rest is just correcting and sometimes, for me, it takes a back seat when we observe the effort and effort.
2)Verbos
Pues sí, los dichosos verbos, saben que son, ¿no? Son aquellas palabras que reflejan una acción: comer, saltar, correr, leer, escribir etc. Si te aprendes la lista de verbos más usados en inglés, no tendrás problema en saber de que habla la oración. La lista de verbos debe ser aprendida y memorizada puesto que no hay otra forma de saberlos. Si lees la oración ‘’the dog walks’’ y has puesto ganas en aprendértelos se te hará fácil reconocerlo y sabrás que la oración habla sobre caminar.
2)Verbs
Yes, the so-called verbs, you know what they are, don't you? They are those words that reflect an action: eat, jump, run, read, write, etc. If you learn the list of the most used verbs in English, you will have no problem knowing what the sentence is talking about. The list of verbs must be learned and memorized since there is no other way to know them. If you read the sentence ''the dog walks'' and you have put a lot of effort into learning them, it will be easy for you to recognize it and you will know that the sentence is about walking.
3) No tratar de traducir todo
Es importantísimo que olvidemos el español por un rato, eso nos confunde. Si, así como lo lees, cuando tratamos de traducir todo nos enredamos y terminamos confundidos. ¿Por qué es ‘’the White cat’’ y en español traducimos al ‘’el gato blanco’’? el orden sintáctico de las palabras no es el mismo que español, ¡¡NO TE ENREDES!! Como siempre digo, se debe pensar en inglés para poder dominar sus 4 habilidades: hablar, escuchar, escribir y leer.
3) Don't try to translate everything
It is very important that we forget Spanish for a while, it confuses us. Yes, just as you read it, when we try to translate everything we get tangled and end up confused, why is it ''the White cat'' and in Spanish we translate ''el gato blanco''? the syntactic order of the words is not the same as Spanish, DON'T GET TRAMMED!!! As I always say, you must think in English to be able to master its 4 skills: speaking, listening, writing and reading.
4) Usa el internet a tu favor
La herramienta más usada en estos tiempos es el internet, me atrevo a decir que no hacemos nada en nuestro día a día sin la ayuda de el. Redes sociales, noticias e incluso televisión son posibles gracias a ello. Y si queremos aprender a dominarlo el internet nos ayudará a lograrlo ¿Cómo? Coloca tus series favoritas en su idioma original y lee los subtítulos, únete a comunidades en tu redes sociales donde hablen estrictamente en inglés para que empieces a comprender chistes o anécdotas en ese idioma, cámbiale el idioma a tu celular para que aprendas asociar, escucha canciones en ingles para que sepas la pronunciación de las palabras de una manera divertida y mucho más. Hacer el aprendizaje mecánico no nos garantiza que siempre estemos motivados para aprender.
4) Use the internet to your advantage.
The most used tool these days is the internet, I dare say that we do nothing in our day to day life without the help of it. Social networks, news and even television are possible thanks to it. And if we want to learn to master it, the internet will help us to achieve it. How? Put your favorite series in its original language and read the subtitles, join communities in your social networks where they speak strictly in English so you begin to understand jokes or anecdotes in that language, change the language to your cell phone so you learn to associate, listen to songs in English so you know the pronunciation of the words in a fun way and much more. Making learning mechanical does not guarantee that we will always be motivated to learn.
5)Tus intereses importan
Muchas veces los profesores nos encargamos de provocar la falta de interés en los estudiantes a la hora de aprender el idioma y esto ¿por qué sucede? Pues pasa porque aún existen facilitadores del idioma que siguen haciendo uso de lo que yo llamo ‘’empty material’’ si traducimos al español ‘’material vacío’’, me refiero a el de esta forma porque solemos usar textos largos sobre temas que no son del interés de gente joven dispuesta a aprender e incluso profesores con mas de 30 años enseñando que siguen usando la grabadora con el mismo cassette que ellos usaron para aprender. Como profesor, el deber también está en aprender de nuestros alumnos para usarlo a nuestro beneficio para enseñar.
5)Your interests matter
Many times we teachers are in charge of provoking a lack of interest in the students when learning the language and why does this happen? Well, it happens because there are still language facilitators who continue to make use of what I call ''empty material'', I refer to it in this way because we tend to use long texts on topics that are not of interest to young people willing to learn and even teachers with more than 30 years teaching who continue to use the recorder with the same cassette they used to learn. As a teacher, the duty is also to learn from our students to use it to our benefit to teach.
6) Olvidemos el método audiolingual
Primero debes saber que este método se basa en la repetición de estructuras gramaticales a través de ‘’empty material’’, los precursores de este método tenían la creencia que mientras el estudiante más repetía, más se aprendía y no habría cabida para errores. Esto quedó en el pasado pues ya se ha comprobado que el propósito al momento de adquirir un idioma es comunicarse de manera efectiva, asi que, olvídate de memorizar y repetir estructuras gramaticales, toma un texto de tu interés y profundiza la lectura para obtener mejores resultados.
6) Let's forget the audiolingual method
First you should know that this method is based on the repetition of grammatical structures through ''empty material'', the precursors of this method had the belief that the more the student repeated, the more he/she learned and there would be no room for mistakes. This was left in the past because it has been proven that the purpose of acquiring a language is to communicate effectively, so forget about memorizing and repeating grammatical structures, take a text of your interest and deepen the reading for better results.
7) Agudiza tu habilidad de escuchar
Durante la pandemia, tuve clases en línea usando las diferentes plataformas y eso me hizo darme cuenta de que tristemente: los estudiantes no saben escuchar, sobre todo los más jóvenes. Cuando hacia el envío de audios para chequear pronunciación, solía hacerlo múltiples veces porque los estudiantes seguían cometiendo equivocaciones en su pronunciación, hubo momentos que pensé que las fallas recaían en mi pero ahí fue que supe que los estudiantes no van más allá que responder para obtener la aprobación.
7) Sharpen your listening skills
During the pandemic, I had online classes using the different platforms and that made me realize that sadly: students are not good listeners, especially the younger ones. When I used to send audios to check pronunciation, I used to do it multiple times because students kept making mistakes in their pronunciation, there were times when I thought the failures were on me but that's when I knew that students don't go beyond answering to get approval.
Para hacerles un resumen: primero, confía en tus habilidades, ten seguridad y si crees tener problemas de pronunciación ¡¡Habla!! De otra manera el profesor no sabrá y no podrá corregirte. Segundo: aprender y memorizar los principales verbos, aquí abajo les dejo una lista de los más usados con sus conjugaciones para que le eches un vistazo. Tercero: deja a un lado el español, no hagas comparaciones sintácticas entre los dos idiomas porque tiende a ser muy confuso para ti que estas aprendiendo. Cuarto: además de usar el internet como herramienta de entretenimiento, úsala como una de provecho para tu aprendizaje. Quinto: lee acerca de lo que te apasiona en inglés; a través de temas de tú total interés adquirirás vocabulario y por último deja a un lado la repetición; concéntrate en comunicarte significativamente y por último aprende a escuchar cuidadosamente. Estos fueron mis concejos para ustedes que quieren empezar a ser estudiantes de un segundo idioma. ¡La constancia es la clave de todo buen estudiante!
To summarize: first, be confident in your abilities, be sure and if you think you have pronunciation problems, speak up! Otherwise the teacher will not know and will not be able to correct you. Second: learn and memorize the main verbs, here below is a list of the most used verbs with their conjugations for you to have a look. Third: put Spanish aside, don't make syntactic comparisons between the two languages because it tends to be very confusing for you as a learner. Fourth: besides using the internet as a tool for entertainment, use it as a tool for your learning. Fifth: read about what you are passionate about in English; through topics of your total interest you will acquire vocabulary and lastly put aside repetition; focus on communicating meaningfully and lastly learn to listen carefully. These were my tips for you who want to start being a second language learner, consistency is the key to every good student!
