I'm here again. Remember I told you about my NGO, Women For Liberty Africa. We recently held a series of webinars for both the ladies of the organization and non-members.
We held this webinars to create enlightenment on how women, especially business owners can thrive at this period. It is no longer news that the outbreak of COVID 19 messed up the economy and businesses everywhere. Things are gradually returning to normal however but some people, especially women are yet to find their feet.
Our first speaker was Mrs Omodunni Alawale of WECAN. WECAN is a female support organization whose members are over 12,000 women on Facebook.
Mrs Alawale spoke on work-life balance during this COVID 19 Economy.
She made it a point to explain why multitasking isn't all great. Women must accept that they can't get it all done. Accept help when offered, you should also ask for help.
Set your priorities right (cut off non-essential financial commitments). If you want financial balance this has to be a thing you practice.
If you are working from home, have a designated workplace and predefined working hours.
The second speaker was Ambassador Sally Othihiwa, the founder of Tender hearts foundation. Tenderhearts foundation is an organization aimed at caring for children, widows and the less privileged in general. Ambassador Sally is also a social entrepreneur and a UN Ambassador for Peace. She spoke about thriving as an entrepreneur during the pandemic.
According to her, having good business values,
business ethics
Transparency
Reliability
Excellent customer service can help your business thrive in the current economic situation. She also talked about paying yourself a token as salary if you are an enterpreneur. Who would have thought...
Also she explained in her slides that Focus, cash flow management, learning from mistakes, considering possible outcomes, focusing on results, getting a consultant's advice and limiting your expenses while you reward yourself are great attitudes to take on while growing your business.
Our third speaker was Abigail Dantzie of Phoenix transcended. Abigail is a life and mental health coach who has helped a lot of women rise from the shackles of abuse, self pity, depression and PTSD both in the UK and in Nigeria.
Abigail believes that when you are surrounded by love and friends, this ensures happiness at this time.
Also the stories you tell yourself and what you say to yourself matters
Abigail's top tips for Thriving are:
Let go of self pity, avoid feeling sorry for yourself
Be grateful
Help Others : There is always someone you can help.
Let your definition of FEAR be Face everything and Rise
Breathe
Appreciate the present...never go back to the past
Live in liberty and love
Abigail also believes in meditation. I have never tried it but it sounds like something that can help you connect with a greater power (God) and of course find peace.
Anyway, I just wanted to share this with the community. Hope you learnt a few things.
