Every now and then something happens that just makes you smile. A car missing breaking every bone in your body by inches when you're on a bike ride, or an attacking lion stopping in its tracks and just licking your nose.
This morning felt a lot like one of these once in a lifetime things... but much less dramatic š
A friend of mine who lives in Bulgaria messaged me yesterday saying she is visiting friends and family back here in the UK for 3 weeks and would I like to come and live in her flat, feed/walk her dog, have use of her car... and because she knows I'm a struggling writer she'd pay me what she would have paid a kennel to look after her beautiful dog called Bliss.

Hell Yeah, I want out of Prison Britain for 26 days of bliss in the mountains of Bulgaria.
So, without a moment's hesitation, I jumped online and checked the flights from near to me, to near to where she lives (sorry gotta keep some anon here). And low and behold they were only Ā£130 but I wasn't sure I'd definitely be able to go yet due to other commitments, so I went to sleep and dreamt sweet dreams of being chased by wolves and befriended by black bears in the mountains of Bulgaria.

Woke up today. Made some calls. Got out of physical IRL obligations. Checked I could fulfill my writing deadlines... course I can remote working is the modern hipster way.
Combed my beard, and quickly got back online.
Would those tickets still be Ā£130? Would I be able to pack 26 days' worth of clothes into my carry-on luggage (the answer is yes)?
The answer to the burning question is, can I afford my adventure in the mountains? Will I get to befriend a bear? How much had the tickets gone up overnight?
The answer...
They were now Ā£65 return for 26 days away from the city in a relatively wild place... just what I'd been dreaming about for years.
D'you know the last time I went on holiday was over 5 years ago in Portugal, and I loved it.

But five years is a long time to be stuck in the same fckn city day in day out, concrete and the sound of cars, police sirens and... well you can see that I am going to enjoy my trip to the countryside of Bulgaria very much.
There is more to this story though. Ā£65 I hear you cry. That is insanely, unbelievably cheap! Some might even say -read the small print moron - cheap.
And they'd be right.
After looking at my booking a bit closer, this was also after excitedly hitting the 'purchase now these seats won't be this cheap for much longer' button, I realized that between stop-overs, the flight to Bulgaria was 7 hours with 2-hour wait in Denmark and the flight home was... drum roll please... 17-hour wait in Milan airport stop-over before returning home. Making the return journey 21 hours in total.
Flying economy with Ryanair.
This is going to be the most fun I've ever had while trying to do my best not to paint the blue and yellow interiors of Ryanair's magnificent airbuses a beautiful chartreuse, or maybe a calming Lilac with overtones of Mauve.
But d'you know what... I don't care about any of my stopover blunders. I'm going on paid vacation to the mountains of Bulgaria. I'll deal with 17 hours in Milan when it happens š
