I woke up this morning to more snow. Sheila was angry all night using her broom with wild abandonment.
“What has Sheila got to do with this snowstorm?
The name known by weather men is from an old Irish Legend that Sheila was a woman in St. Patrick’s life. She was either his wife, mother, housekeeper or a sister and the last snowfall was her sweeping out the old season.
The last big snowstorm after St. Patrick’s Day (March 17) is traditionally called Sheila Brush. It foretells pleasant spring weather to follow. If this storm happens before March 17 it’s called ‘Patrick and Sheila’ and something has riled her up and spring will be later in warming up Eastern Canada.
As it usually does, her brush followed a period of mild weather in mid-March when suddenly the weather changed and Sheila got out her broom.
Her broom flattened out this little tree by the house.
Many fishermen will not go out to do their work until after Sheila’s brush has happened.
Now that Sheila has had her wild night I am looking forward to warm sunny weather to follow.
