The Veres1Theater held the online premiere of the play Black Comedy in January. Then in my recommendation, I wrote that if it is shown live, the area will resound with laughter. I wasn't wrong, in fact ...
As part of the Mézesvölgyi Summer program series, we were finally able to watch this entertaining, yet thought-provoking performance live in Veresegyház yesterday. We laughed a lot, actually almost from start to finish. According to the story, hunger sculptor Brindsley Miller is expecting important guests for the evening, but due to a short circuit, it will be completely dark in the apartment. There are a lot of humorous situations arising from this turn. The stumbling of the characters in the “darkness”, mixing drinks and people gives birth to lots and lots of funny scenes. Not to mention the facials of the actors, which reflected the feelings very well. Perhaps András Csonka and József Kerekes were the best in this. Nor is it the way Gyöngyi Molnár beats Balázs Nagy. It gives him such momentum that one would think he was really breaking Balázs' nose. According to the story, Enikő Zorgel's behavior takes a 180-degree turn, during which we can laugh a lot at her behavior. It’s also fun the way the characters get around each other in the “darkness” while Balázs Nagy rearranges the furniture. But I’m not going to tell you more about it, just look at it.
As far as I know, this was Sándor Nagy's first completely independent production and he put together the performance perfectly. I hope we can see more similar work from him because it looks like he doesn’t just have talent for acting.
The length of the performance is about 100 minutes in 1 act, but it doesn’t seem long at all. After all, when we have fun, time flies. The age limit of 16 is legitimate because of the text, but in fact, the audience laughed at every swearing and age-limiting text. So not so conspicuous. Anyone who thinks they’ve seen it online so they don’t watch it live anymore may be wrong. On the one hand, no two performances are the same, on the other hand, it’s better live, just because of the other laughing spectators. The whole atmosphere was great.
Of course, this play also has something to say. Put simply, it’s not at all certain to take you forward if you want to look different than who you are. Especially if you do it to win over others, as this will deceive yourself and your environment. Be who you are.
