My Double Delight rose has been keeping me on my toes this year. When it had its first big flush of blooms, the flowers were gorgeous—exactly the classic red‑edged look I was hoping for. But even then, I spotted one tiny bloom that came out completely white. I shrugged it off at the time.

Turns out, this rose is just picky about the weather. Double Delight needs strong, direct sunlight and warm temperatures to bring out that pinkish-red color. Without enough heat and sun, the petals stay pale.

And with all the cool mornings, cloudy days, and random rain we’ve had, it makes sense why the color disappeared.

Here’s what I’ve learned:

• Not enough sun means no red edges.

• Cold or wet weather keeps the plant from making the red pigment.

• The blooms start out white anyway and only color up once they’ve had plenty of sun.

So nothing is actually wrong—my rose is just waiting for better conditions.

All it needs is a good 6–8 hours of California direct sunlight each day!

Hopefully, the next round of blooms brings back that beautiful pinkish-red I saw earlier in the season
