This is the story of how I was able to fulfill one of my dreams: to see one of The Beatles in concert. The way it all happened makes me think that magic exists.
Aunque no son de mi generación, la música buena perdura para siempre y desde adolescente me volví fan de Los Beatles y fantaseaba con poder ver a alguno de ellos en un escenario.
Although they are not from my generation, good music lasts forever and since I was a teenager I became a fan of The Beatles and fantasized about seeing one of them on stage.
Esto sucedió hace exactamente 10 años, el 11 de noviembre de 2010, un poco antes, en septiembre, me llegó una información a mi correo electrónico sobre un curso de Cine Documental que se iba a realizar en Buenos Aires, Argentina. Me interesó, averigüé todo y solicité un permiso en mi trabajo por un mes, que era el tiempo que duraba este curso.
This happened exactly 10 years ago, on November 11, 2010, a little earlier, in September, I received information in my email about a Documentary Film course that was going to take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I was interested, I found out everything and I applied for a permit in my work for a month, which was the time that this course lasted.
Unos días después, navegando en Internet, me enteré que Paul McCartney iba a hacer una gira por Suramérica en la que Argentina estaba incluida ¿y adivinen qué? La fecha estaba justo entre los días en que yo iba a estar estudiando en Buenos Aires.
A few days later, surfing the Internet, I found out that Paul McCartney was going to tour South America in which Argentina was included, and guess what? The date was right between the days when I was going to be studying in Buenos Aires.
¡Me emocioné demasiado! Pero a la vez me dio como una desesperación jajaja porque no sabía cómo hacer para adquirir una entrada. Las vendían por Internet pero yo no tenía tarjeta de crédito con divisas para poder hacer la compra por ese medio, ¡qué derrota!
I got too excited! But at the same time I felt desperate hahaha because I didn't know how to get a ticket. They sold them online but I didn't have a credit card with foreign currency to be able to make the purchase through that means, what a defeat!
Estuve pensando cómo hacer hasta que... ¡bingo! Una compañera de trabajo y amiga, Yamila, era la solución. Ella es argentina y tenía como dos años trabajando en Caracas (Venezuela), le pregunté si alguien de su familia allá me podía hacer el favor de comprarme la entrada y yo se la pagaba cuando llegara a Buenos Aires. Me dijo: “¡claro! Le voy a decir a mi hermano”. Había que apurarse porque las entradas se agotaban en horas.
I was thinking how to do it until... bingo! A co-worker and friend, Yamila, was the solution. She is Argentine and had been working in Caracas (Venezuela) for about two years. I asked her if someone from her family there could do me the favor of buying my ticket and I would pay for it when I got to Buenos Aires. She said: “of course! I'm going to tell my brother ”. I was in a hurry because I read that tickets were sold out in hours.
Me dijo que no había problema, “enviále un correo electrónico a mi hermano y decile qué asiento querés”… porque había muchas zonas: general y como cuatro VIP. Me metí en la página web de la empresa que organizó el concierto y ubiqué una zona VIP no tan VIP, o sea no muy cara jajaja pero que estaba más o menos cerca del escenario. Cuando el hermano de Yamila me confirmó que ya había comprado la entrada ¡grité de la emoción! De todos modos como todavía faltaban días para viajar a Argentina, aún no lo podía creer.
She told me there was no problem, "send an email to my brother and tell him which seat you want" ... because there were many areas: general and about four VIPs. I went to the webpage of the company that organized the concert and located a VIP area that was not so VIP, that is, not very expensive hahaha but it was more or less close to the stage. When Yamila's brother confirmed that he had already bought the ticket, I screamed with excitement! Anyway, as there were still days to travel to Argentina, I still couldn't believe it.
El día del viaje llegó y cuando ya estaba en la residencia donde me quedé durante el mes del curso, pedí prestado el teléfono al encargado y llamé al hermano de Yamila, quien me dijo que podía pasar a darme la entrada al día siguiente. Así fue, me la dio y yo le di un millón de gracias, y el dinero claro jejeje, ¡ahora sí, todo se veía más real!
The day of the trip arrived and when I was already at the residence where I stayed for the month of the course, I asked to borrow the phone from the manager and called Yamila's brother, who told me that he could come and give me the ticket the next day. He did so, he gave it to me and I thanked him a million, and I gave him the money of course hehehe, now, everything looked more real!
El evento fue un jueves, yo tenía clases hasta las 5:00 de la tarde, aunque me fui antes de las 4:00 ese día jeje, y el concierto empezaba a las 7:00 de la noche. Había preguntado a mis compañeros cómo llegar al estadio El Monumental o del River Plate en autobús, pero luego decidí tomar un taxi para evitar perderme o quién sabe, ¡estaba ansiosa!
The event was on a Thursday, I had classes until 5:00 in the afternoon, although I left before 4:00 that day hehe, and the concert started at 7:00 at night. I had asked my classmates how to get to El Monumental or River Plate stadium by bus, but then I decided to take a taxi to avoid getting lost or who knows, I was anxious!
Cuando llegué a los alrededores del estadio había muchísima gente, una fila enorme, aunque faltaba aún como una hora y media para que empezara. Este estadio de fútbol, propiedad del Club Atlético River Plate, es el más grande de Argentina con una capacidad de más de 70 mil espectadores. El día anterior había sido el primer concierto de esta gira de Paul McCartney en el país, y por el éxito y demanda del público abrieron una fecha más, que fue el día que yo asistí.
When I got to the surroundings of the stadium, there were a lot of people, a huge line, although there was still about an hour and a half before it started. This football stadium, owned by Club Atlético River Plate, is the largest in Argentina with a capacity of more than 70 thousand spectators. The day before had been the first concert of this Paul McCartney tour in the country, and due to the success and demand of the public they opened one more date, which was the day I attended.

La gira tenía por nombre Up and Coming Tour y comenzó el 28 de marzo de 2010 en Estados Unidos, llevando al músico a varios países durante ese año y 2011: Puerto Rico, México, Irlanda, Reino Unido, Canadá, Brasil, Argentina, Perú y Chile.
The tour was called Up and Coming Tour and began on March 28, 2010 in the United States, taking the musician to several countries during that year and 2011: Puerto Rico, Mexico, Ireland, United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Chile.
Al poco tiempo la fila comenzó a moverse, lo que significaba que ya habían abierto las puertas y podíamos entrar.

Cuando me tocó enseñar mi ticket estaba tan feliz y sonriente que el chico que me la revisó me preguntó de dónde venía, cuando le dije que de Venezuela se sorprendió y mientras yo corría dentro del estadio me gritó: "¡disfruuutaaa!”
When I had to show my ticket I was so happy and smiling that the boy who reviewed it asked me where I came from, when I told him that from Venezuela he was surprised and while I was running inside the stadium he yelled at me: "enjooooy!"
Me indicaron donde estaba mi asiento y di un vistazo alrededor, poco a poco las gradas se iban llenando al igual que las zonas VIP delante de mí, recuerden que yo estaba en una zona VIP no tan VIP, pero igual demasiado feliz.
They showed me where my seat was and I took a look around, little by little the stands were filling up as well as the VIP areas in front of me, remember that I was in a VIP area not so VIP, but still too happy.
Comenzó la prueba de sonido y todos estábamos ansiosos, viendo hacia la tarima, cuando ya había anochecido se apagaron todas las luces, se encendieron de nuevo y el legendario Paul McCartney apareció en el escenario cargando su acostumbrado bajo color marrón, todos gritamos de emoción y cuando la música sonó el estadio entero estalló en aplausos.
The sound check began and we were all anxious, looking towards the stage, when it was already dark all the lights went out, they came on again and the legendary Paul McCartney appeared on stage carrying his customary brown bass, we all shouted with excitement and when the music played the entire stadium erupted in applause.
El show inició con la canción Magical Mystery Tour de Los Beatles, de verdad yo estaba como en un trance, lo veía y no podía creerlo, otras personas a mi alrededor también sentían lo mismo.
The show started with the song Magical Mystery Tour by The Beatles, I really was like in a trance, I saw him and I couldn't believe it, other people around me also felt the same.
Paul fue alternando piezas de Los Beatles con otras de su carrera en solitario y con la banda Wings, pero claro la mayor parte del play list eran las famosas canciones de los cuatro de Liverpool.

Mi parte favorita fue cuando interpretó canciones como All my loving, I've just seen a face, Eleonor Rigby, Yesterday, A day in the life, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band… y en realidad todas jajaja pero digamos que tuve mis favoritas. Algo gracioso fue escucharlo hablar unas cuantas frases en español, aunque no lo hizo nada mal jejeje.
My favorite part was when he performed songs like All my loving, I've just seen a face, Eleonor Rigby, Yesterday, A day in the life, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band… and actually all of them hahaha but let's say I had my favorites. Something funny was hearing him speak a few sentences in Spanish, although he didn't do it badly.
En total el concierto duró casi tres horas y tocó 30 canciones y luego volvió a salir al escenario para tocar siete más entre los aplausos y gritos de “maaaaaaás” de todos los que estábamos ahí. Su voz seguía siendo increíble a pesar de los años, sonaba como en los discos jejeje, hay que destacar también la tremenda banda que lo acompañó, de verdad todos excelentes músicos.
In total, the concert lasted almost three hours and he played 30 songs and then went back on stage to play seven more amid applause and shouts of "moooore" from all of us who were there. His voice was still incredible despite the years, it sounded like in the records hehehe, I also have to highlight the tremendous band that accompanied him, really all excellent musicians.

Por supuesto tocó Hey Jude y ya al final cerró con The End ¿bastante apropiado no? Se despidió de todos agradeciendo y un rato después las luces del escenario se apagaron, todos nos fuimos retirando lentamente del lugar con grandes sonrisas en nuestros rostros, siempre digo que fue uno de los mejores momentos que he vivido y además siempre presumo que vi a Paul McCartney en concierto jajaja.
Of course he played Hey Jude and at the end he closed with The End, quite appropriate isn't it? He said goodbye to everyone thanking everyone and a while later the stage lights went out, we all slowly left the place with big smiles on our faces, I always say that it was one of the best moments I have lived and also I always presume that I saw Paul McCartney in concert hahaha.
