Earlier today I stumbled on a post of a brother who made a blog related to this post and I have come to notice people mostly misunderstand the difference between knowing your value which is your self worth and being an egoistic person.
I would love to first explain this two terms individually before I move on.
What does it mean to be know your self worth?
Having knowledge about your self worth is simple put as knowing what you value and what you can offer. It is important to always know you self worth to avoid being taken for granted.
For example, A Ph.D Holder in Medicine would known his value when he is invited for a particular job and what pay he would be given for that job.
It is just knowing how much you should be appreciated for what you are willingly to offer.
Knowing your self worth means having set of conditions before you can offer what qualities you have. Let us use a musician as an example, you can't invite a professional musician over to a show to perform without offering something for his services. Now what you will offer to the a professional musician would be different from what you would offer to an Amateur musician.
The one with more qualifications always get paid more because they have more to offer than one with less but if you don't know you self worth, you would lose your value and be taken advantage of.
Now what does it mean to be egoistic
When you are egoistic then you are self centered and only concerned about your personal interest. An egoistic person is someone who is full of pride. Though I won't say pride is a bad thing but you actually need a little pinch of pride to know your self worth.
An egoistic person is also someone who would seize every opportunity he sees that adds to his personal interests even though it affects another person. They are ready to take advantage of anybody or anything because they only care about their growth.
If you have no sense of self worth then you will probably be taken advantage of by an egoistic person. Having self worth and being egoistic both contitute to having some sense of pride. It all boils down to the degree of pride in you.
You can have a sense of self worth and be egoistic at the same time you can be also have a sense of self worth and not be egoistic. If you want to know which class you are in, therefore ask yourself these questions below.
HOW TO KNOW YOUR SELF WORTH
- What special qualities do you have to offer as a person?
- What other qualifications do you have?
- How can you use my qualities and qualifications to bring solutions?
- What amount should you be earning from those qualities and qualifications.
- How much are you earning at the moment and why?
- Then meditate if your worth is being taken advantage of by people you render services to?
- Do you believe in yourself and in your potential
HOW TO KNOW IF YOU ARE EGOISTIC
- What position are you in right now?
- Did you take advantage of anybody to be at that position
- Do you look lesser at anybody at all even if it's just to make you feel higher
- Do you talk to anybody anyhow regardless on how they might feel
If you replies are yes to the question above then you are in the class of being egoistic.
