Anything we do consistently over time becomes a habit. To me, habits are like structures that we build in order to do certain things with little to no mental effort. This is good as unnecessary thinking can be counterproductive to the task at hand. I think most people prefer to do their work undisturbed.
This one pointed focus on a task can be a path towards mastery and engaging the flow state. It's always an inspiring sight to see artists fully immersed in their work like nothing else exists. There's a dimension to it.
Of course, inner inspiration is seemingly not under our control. It comes and goes like the wind. But on the outside, there are many places and things to draw inspiration from. Many of the things we see around us were mere thoughts at one point in time.
I don't think there's a way to cultivate inspiration to be always available to us to tap into whenever we want to.
The fact that it requires personal effort on our part to engage it when it is not around gives us a glimpse into its mechanism. Perhaps, it is a passive principle that's in need of an active impulse.
Multiple Ways, Same Destination
Life often seems less meaningful without inspiration. But on the flip side, lack of inspiration can be an opportunity to explore different perspectives and possibilities. Sometimes, changing our standpoint can reveal hidden aspects of reality that we were not aware of before.
To me, inspiration is not a fixed state of mind, but a dynamic process of discovery and creation. It is not something that we have or don’t have, but something that we do or don’t do. By just being open and curious, we can invite inspiration into our lives and use it as a catalyst for growth and transformation.
I know it doesn't seem easy or simple. They say curiosity kills the cat and being open makes us vulnerable. But how about a practical perspective that takes it one step at a time?
Seek out new experiences and challenges
Anything that simulates creativity is welcomed here. The interesting thing is that we're naturally curious since there's so much to discover about life. But I guess a few bad experiences were enough to remove this tendency from us.
Time to look beyond these bad experiences and re-cultivate a curious attitude. Seeking out new experiences and challenges can lead to inspiring discoveries.
Being around inspiring people
I don't think we can keep a closed attitude around people who are inspiring, especially those who share our passions and values.
We will be inclined to interact with them and bounce off ideas. And by resonance, our closed attitude would gradually fade away like how night gives way to day.
When it comes to inspiration, an open attitude trumps a closed one by a huge margin.
In Closing
Inspiration is not something we wait for, but something we create and cultivate. Despite it not being entirely under our control.
Reconciling the difference can be done through seeing inspiration as a journey and not a destination. Yes, the journey is ours to take but the outcome is not decided by us.
