🇪🇸 ~ El pasado domingo 17 de Mayo asistí a la "Koifest, Tanabata Festival", un evento otaku-cosplayer del que hace meses estaba atenta porque en sus anteriores actividades han manejado varias de mis temáticas favoritas (alusión a seres sobrenaturales y festivales propios de la cultura Japonesa).
Esta es una nueva organización y una nueva línea de eventos en mi ciudad, en su cuenta de instagram podrán encontrar más información sobre quiénes son, sus personajes originales (OC) con su respectivo lore, y lo que considero mas importante, la ventana directa para conocer su visión y toda la data importante sobre qué clase de propuesta es este proyecto.
Hoy día en Maracaibo hay lo que considero un "boom" de eventos de entretenimiento, tanto de entrada paga como entrada gratuita, en salones cerrados o espacios abiertos incluyendo diferentes centros comerciales, podemos decir que hay opciones para todos los gustos y todos los presupuestos.
Yo ubicaría al "KoiFest" como una de esas pautas bonitas que no te puedes perder si quieres experimentar lo mejor de 2 épocas:
El presente, con mejores recursos en cuanto sonido, pantallas y diversificación de actividades; y el pasado, porque es un evento organizado por y para fans (este no es el tipo de propuesta que tiene como verdadero y principal objetivo generar ganancias en vista de la enorme popularidad que ha ganado el tema anime-manga-cosplay-kpop).

🇺🇸 ~ Last Sunday, May 17, I attended the “Koifest, Tanabata Festival,” an otaku-cosplay event I’d been looking forward to for months because their past events have featured several of my favorite themes (referring to supernatural beings and festivals unique to Japanese culture).This is a new organization and a new series of events in my city. On their Instagram account, you can find more information about who they are, their original characters (OCs) with their respective lore, and what I consider most important: A direct window into their vision and all the key details about what this project entails.
These days in Maracaibo, there’s what I consider a “boom” in entertainment events—both paid and free, in indoor venues and open spaces, including various shopping malls. We can say there are options for all tastes and budgets.
I would place “KoiFest” among those must-see highlights you can’t miss if you want to experience the best of two eras:
The present, with better resources in terms of sound, screens, and a variety of activities; and the past, because it’s an event organized by and for fans (this isn’t the kind of event whose true and primary goal is to generate profits, given the enormous popularity that anime, manga, cosplay, and K-pop have gained).
Las entradas para este evento se compraron con antelación (todas VIP), y no había visitado "Aventura Bar" antes, es como su nombre indica un bar, de dos pisos y con todo su interior pintado de color oscuro.
En la planta baja estaba ubicado el escenario principal con su respectiva pantalla, y en el piso superior estaban las tiendas (me gusto mucho la variedad y calidad de mercancía disponible) con un espacio para los talleres pre-anunciados en cronograma, mas un bonito set de fotografía bien iluminado.
Tickets for this event were purchased in advance (all VIP), and I hadn’t visited “Aventura Bar” before; as the name suggests, it’s a bar—two stories high, with the entire interior painted in dark colors.
The main stage with its screen was located on the ground floor, and on the upper floor were the shops (I really liked the variety and quality of the merchandise available), along with a space for the workshops announced in the schedule, plus a nice, well-lit photo set.
Como llegue un poco tarde quise pasar la mayoría del tiempo conversando con las amigas que tenia mucho tiempo sin ver en persona, no estuve tan atenta al cronograma de escenario como normalmente me gustaría pero así sucede cuando tienes el tiempo contado durante un evento, debes escoger qué hacer con esas horas y sobre todo estar atento al reloj, porque el tiempo pasa SUPER VOLANDO, pero doy fé que el Concurso de Cosplay, la Pasarela y el concierto fueron muy bonitos.
Since I arrived a little late, I wanted to spend most of my time chatting with friends I hadn’t seen in person in a long time. I didn’t pay as much attention to the stage schedule as I usually would, but that’s how it goes when you’re short on time at an event—you have to choose what to do with those hours and, above all, keep an eye on the clock, because time flies by SO FAST, but I can attest that the Cosplay Contest, and the concert were everything we hoped for and went off without a hitch.
✦ And it was really hot—the whole city is sweltering right now—but thank goodness there was this bar serving cold boba drinks ✦
✦ There were a lot of really cute cosplayers, but since I spent almost the entire afternoon chatting, I was only able to ask for a few group photos ✦
✦ That really is a beautiful set, and you can use it for free! ✦
Después del evento teníamos una pauta para cenar en otro lugar así que tuvimos que irnos temprano, normalmente me gusta quedarme hasta el final del evento pero hubiera sido muy tarde por la noche.
Pero pude alcanzar a escuchar las premiaciones y creo que los resultados del Concurso de Cosplay fueron justos. Muy bien merecido ese primer lugar a un bello dual de "EPIC".
Noten que a la salida también había este lindo "Tori" para tomarte fotos, es la clase de detalles que me enamoran de los eventos temáticos, aprecio el esfuerzo de las organizaciones por incluir cosas así porque sé que no es fácil (ni comisionarlas, transportarlas o almacenarlas).

After the event, we had plans to have dinner somewhere else, so we had to leave early. I usually like to stay until the end of the event, but it would have been way too late at night.But I managed to catch the awards ceremony, and I think the results of the Cosplay Contest were fair. That first-place win was well deserved by a beautiful “EPIC” duo.
Note that there was also this cute “Tori” at the exit for taking photos—it’s the kind of detail that makes me fall in love with themed events. I appreciate the organizers’ effort to include things like this because I know it’s not easy (whether commissioning, transporting, or storing them).

¿Recomiendo asistir a los eventos organizados por "KoiFest?, ¡si!, este fue lo que yo llamaría un evento tranquilo y disfrutable, para pasarla con amigos y para llevar a tu familia como una primera experiencia o primer acercamiento a los eventos de entretenimiento manganime-cosplay-otaku-gamer.
Do I recommend attending events organized by “KoiFest”? Yes! This was what I would call a relaxed and enjoyable event—perfect for hanging out with friends or bringing your family along for their first experience or introduction to manga, anime, cosplay, otaku, and gaming events.
Puntos extra a resaltar, como parte de sus publicaciones emiten un listado de normas de convivencia, y aunque fomentan valores como la comunicación, el respeto y el sentido de comunidad, recientemente banearon a través de un comunicado público a un elemento potencialmente peligroso para los asistentes.
Una movida arriesgada considerando el ambiente que vivimos hoy en el país, pero sin duda valiente.
Banear a una persona "toxica" suena lo más lógico para un organizador-organización-producción de eventos pero aunque se diga fácil la acción implica una importante carga de responsabilidades, algo que me gustaría que como comunidad y público reflexionáramos con mas tacto y delicadeza.
A muchos les gusta exigir pero la verdadera cuestión es, ¿acompañarías y apoyarías hasta el final al que decidió ser valiente y asumir la carga de decisiones tan importantes?.
Y ya para terminar en un tono mas alegre, porque eso fue ese día, un día feliz, este evento pasa a estar en mi lista para asistir sin preocupaciones, del que tengo entendido habrá 2 ediciones cada año.

Another noteworthy point is that, as part of their posts, they publish a list of community guidelines. While they promote values such as communication, respect, and a sense of community, they recently banned an individual deemed a potential threat to attendees via a public statement.
A risky move considering the climate we’re experiencing in the country today, but undoubtedly a brave one.
Banning a “toxic” person sounds like the most logical thing for an event organizer, organization, or production team to do, but while it’s easy to say, the action carries a significant burden of responsibility—something I’d like us, as a community and audience, to reflect on with more tact and sensitivity.
Many people like to make demands, but the real question is: would you stand by and support to the very end someone who decided to be brave and take on the burden of such important decisions?
And to end on a happier note—because that’s what that day was, a happy day—this event is now on my list of must-attend events, and from what I understand, there will be two editions each year.
