I took my time to carry out a personal study on why so many young people between the ages of 30 and 45 are dying these days.
From my observations and research, I discovered that many of these deaths are linked to heart attacks, hypertension, kidney failure, liver problems, stress-related illnesses, and other health complications.
Within just two months, I can count about four to five people I personally know within this age range who lost their lives as a result of one or more of these conditions. Honestly, this is very alarming and heartbreaking. 😢
One of them was a very close friend of mine. He called me one day asking for just ₦1000 for support, but unfortunately, I was already tied up with another commitment and could not send it immediately. I planned to send it the next morning.
Sadly, before the next morning came, another friend sent me his obituary picture
I was shocked. I felt terrible within me because I kept asking myself: what exactly was he going through at that moment when he called me?
During our conversation, he said:
"Bro, e no easy o… I never really dey go out lately. I broke die. Abeg, you fit help me send ₦1000? I dey seriously broke."
Those were his last words to me before he passed away. 💔
Later, it was reported that he slumped in the bathroom and died. What could have gone wrong? Hypertension? Heart failure? Depression? Stress? Nobody really knows.
The second person was another young man I watched a Manchester United match with just two weeks earlier. According to neighbors, after the match, he still went to another relaxation spot to play pool before heading home.
When he got home, his wife served him food and he sat on the couch to rest. A few minutes later, the wife went into the room to rest too. But when she came back outside after some time, she met him gasping for breath and struggling to breathe.
Before they could rush him to the nearest hospital, it was already too late. He was gone.
Out of the five people I mentioned, at least three reportedly died from hypertension and heart-related complications.
Another young man slumped and died on the football field during a match.
All these situations have kept me thinking deeply: What is really happening? Why are young people dying this way?
Is it because of the hardship in the country and the pressure people face daily? 🤔
Should we blame the government?
Is it the lack of proper medical facilities and healthcare?
Or is it because many people ignore the little warning signs their bodies give them?
Could it also be the kind of food we consume daily — too much processed food, junk food, and unhealthy eating habits?
Or should we talk about drug abuse and the dangerous intake of substances like marijuana, weed, codeine, and other hard drugs?
These are questions that continue to bother my mind because the rate at which young people are dying is becoming frightening.
As for my conclusion:
No matter how little, when someone asks for your help, try your best to assist if you can. You may unknowingly be saving a life at that moment.
Secondly, we must learn to pay attention to our health. Regular medical checkups are important. Many people ignore symptoms until it becomes too late.
Drug abuse also kills silently. The use of hard drugs among young people today is becoming extremely alarming, and this issue must be treated seriously by both society and the government.
To the government, we need a system that truly works — good hospitals, quality healthcare, affordable treatment, and better medical facilities so people will not be afraid or unable to seek medical help.
The government should also provide basic amenities, create job opportunities, and build an environment where citizens can live healthier and less stressful lives.
We must also learn to eat healthy foods instead of constantly consuming junk food. Many people hardly eat fruits anymore. 😢
At the end of the day, health is wealth.
We must all do our best to live healthy lifestyles, both young and old, because life itself is fragile and tomorrow is never promised. 💔
