Calles de Barquisimeto: Accesibilidad [ESP/ENG]

Bienvenidos a este nuevo video, estoy aprendiendo poco a poco a editar y sortear los problemas que se presentan por la capacidad de la computadora y el internet. El siguiente paso será encontrar donde grabar el voice-over haha.

Bueno, no sé si sabrán, pero soy de Venezuela, específicamente de Barquisimeto, y camino bastante, por lo que se me ocurrió crear algunos videos mostrando nuestras calles, el lado feo y el lado bonito.

Empezaré con el lado un poco feo, fallas en la planificación, y el motivo es: Porque fue este problema el que detonó la idea.

Well, I don't know if you know, but I'm from Venezuela, specifically Barquisimeto, and I walk quite a lot, so I thought of creating some videos showing our streets, the ugly side, and the beautiful side.
I'll start with the ugly side, planning failures, and the reason is: Because it was this problem that triggered the idea.

Este video se me ocurrió un día que venía con una maleta pesada y realmente necesitaba que rodara por la acera. Siempre he sabido que las aceras están en mal estado, pero con mis dos piernas funcionando, al igual que mis ojos, no ha sido mucho problema sortear los obstáculos. Pero ¿Cómo es la accesibilidad en la ciudad? Este es un recorrido de una media hora como mucho, pocas cuadras ida y vuelta desde el lugar donde vivo, y quiero que noten como las rampas son inconsistentes, los objetos en el camino, el estado de las alcantarillas y la cantidad de agujeros en lugares inesperados.

This video came to me one day when I was coming in with a heavy suitcase and really needed it to roll down the sidewalk. I've always known that sidewalks are in bad shape, but with both my legs working, as well as my eyes, it wasn't much of a problem getting around obstacles. But what is the accessibility like in the city? This is a half-hour walk at most, a few blocks round trip from where I live, and I want you to notice how the ramps are inconsistent, the objects in the road, the condition of the gutters, and the number of holes in unexpected places.

No han sido pocos los accidentes, personalmente conozco de un caso, donde un señor se cayó por uno de los grandes agujeros y tuvieron que ayudarlo a no terminar de caer al fondo unos chicos que pasaban, no lo vi donde siempre lo encontraba por días y cuando apareció me contó que le pasó eso y le dejó muchas lesiones. Y también vi como un ciego metía el pie en un agujero en la calle porque levantó su bastón para sentir otra parte de la acera justo en ese momento; no reaccioné lo suficientemente rápido para que no metiera el pie pero pude sostenerlo para que no se cayera y la lesión fuera peor.

There have been many accidents, I personally know of a case where a man fell through one of the big holes and some kids who were passing by had to help him not to fall to the bottom, I did not see him where I always found him for days and when he showed up he told me that this happened to him and left him with many injuries. And I also saw how a blind man put his foot in a hole in the street because he raised his cane to feel another part of the sidewalk just at that moment; I didn't react fast enough for him not to put his foot in but I was able to hold him so he wouldn't fall and the injury would be worse.

Como personas que podemos ver, caminar, oír, a veces olvidamos que no todo está dado por hecho, hay personas que no pueden hacer esas cosas, y la ciudad no está pensada para ellas, incluso las acomodaciones que deberían ser para ellos están hechas "por cumplir" están allí, pero no son funcionales, eso significa que las personas en sillas de rueda, que son en las que me enfoco hoy, tienen que transitar por la calle, como si fueran un auto, para poder ir de un lado a otro; cabe destacar que las calles tampoco se encuentran en buen estado y algunos de los peligros se repiten en ellas.

As people who can see, walk, hear, sometimes we forget that not everything is a given, there are people who cannot do those things, and the city is not meant for them, even the accommodations that should be for them are made "to comply" they are there, but they are not functional, that means that people in wheelchairs, which are the ones I focus on today, have to transit the street, as if they were a car, in order to get from one place to another; it should be noted that the streets are not in good condition either and some of the dangers are repeated on them.
